Actually G.A.S.sing for a new guitar!

Once in a blue moon, i actually entertain the thought of getting another guitar. Everytime i do, i sit out my #1 for awhile and play the new guitar, only to pick up my #1 later and think..."why am I playing anything else"?

Anyways...i've never really been attracted to offset guitars before, and for some stupid reason, (i've never actually touched one) i thought they were all 24 3/4 scale length, but not the Jazzmaster!

So, here's the dilemna...I want a good one, but don't have a lot of $$$...i know...story of everyone's life right?

This is the guitar that sparked my interest...it's absolutely GORGEOUS!!!

Troy Van Leeuwen Signature Jazzmaster! The Color combo is stunning. It's really dark when not in the light, and gets lighter or darker depending on lighting. I love the inlays, the control layout with the dual toggles, the matching headstock, the bound fretboard, the mustang bridge, pretty much everything except the price............$1299 (for an MIM, although mainly US Parts)! However, i can pay a little over $100 for 12 months at Zzounds?!

Then there's the alternative, and it's at a much better price point of $399 or 4 $100 payments at zzounds. It's the J Mascis Signature Squier Jazzmaster. I don't mind the color at all, and would really dig it with a mint green guard. I've read that with a couple of upgrades of a GFS bridge and maybe a pup swap, that this is one of the best guitars for the $$$ out there right now?

Any of you guys have any hands on experiences with either one of these guitars??

Re: Actually G.A.S.sing for a new guitar!

I owned a '63 Jaguar back in the day..... It was stolen, but it was my first good guitar. The original Jaguars were short scale, but I didn't really no any better when I bought it. The Jazzmasters are full scale. The originals were 25.5" I don't recall Fender using 24.75" scale on any guitars they made. The Jaguar I had was a very cool guitar but the Jazzmaster was a ton better. It had nicer pickups, it played better due to the scale and it sounded better. I have little to no experience with any of these new models.
