ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

I have an oppurtunity to get a used ADA mp1 for 170 USD.
I cant try before I buy so I have to listen to clips (which i have, and they seem fairly average).
The midi chip is damaged, and it will cost approx. 30 USD to fix.

So all up it will cost me about 200 USD.

A) is it worth the money?
B) will I need a cab/ poweramp for it or can i run it into my fender stage 112se (will it sound any good).
C) Does it sound any good?

I need versatility.
At the moment my v-amp2 is serving me well.

Anyone ideas?

Thinking about it, do it. Then do the 3.666 mod on ADAdepot.com, it turns it into a 3 channel Tri-Axis pretty much. If you have some cash and get the 3tube mod done, I've heard it sounds identical to a triaxis

Re: ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

And if you dont like it, just sell it to Voodoo Amps, I've heard they buy MP-1's for about 250, and the mods aren't hard to do if you can work on PC board.

Re: ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

I have both of those ADA mods , and love them. The Mod4 MK II is not bad either.

I think that you could find a better price on an undamaged stock unit though. I have 6 of the ADA's with various mods, and never paid over $150 for them in their stock form. Just keep your eyes out for the good deals. I have even sold one or two stock units to Voodoo Amps, and Trace has always done me right ( even used to have one of his ADA modded units.... )

Check out ADADEPOT.COM for the modifications, they are free and EASY to do , if you can solder.

Good Luck

:)

I had a ada mp1 voodoo mod. It kickedass. Had to sell $$$ Check em out at www.voodooamps.com
I have also had the recifier mod and getting a voodoo cabinet soon. They are the best at tone and customer service.

Re: ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

i got a friend with one. maybe i'll tell him to post a review here.

great sounding unit. there is a catch however, the MP-1 is meant to work with other high gear in a rack, so if you're not going to start up a proper rack, the MP-1 will not sound as good as its supposed to.

Re: ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

Hmmm....great for 80's Hair Metal! :)

Had some fun with it, but I sold mine and don't miss it at all.

But, you know, I'm more of a blues player... :) ...I'm not into that processed kinda tone.

Re: ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

Damn, I'm keen to get it now.
But 30 minutes after I started this post someone snapped it up!

Not more than 150USD u say?
Hmmm interesting... I would have to ship from the states though...

I'm looking for a really nice clean that can on the neck pup get really bluesy and ballsy, and on bridge pup get nice and chimy but not heaps of highend that hurts lol.
A channel 2 thats marshellesque and can go from just clipping to a growly drive...
A channel 3 which knocks your socks off and is excellent for petrucci/hetfield/tool type stuff but can be tamed to a more laid back situation but still being in your face...

I know its vague, But is it for me?

In your opinion what are the best MOD's to get from the ADADEPOT?

Re: ADA mp-1 , thoughts?

With a good powersection, and some mods, yes.

I have 2 favorites: The 3.666 mod for the Mesa Boogie Dual Rec tone and the 3 Tube mod for the hot rodded Marshall 80's type tones. The great thing about them is that you can afford to have a few of these ADA's and then mod the crap out of them!!!! I still use my hot rodded Marshall JCM 800 ( Voodoo Amps) and Diezel when I gig though.

If you use a GOOD tubed power amp with these modded ADA's, you can get GREAT tone, at a fraction of the cost of the amps they are somewhat modeled after. I use a Mesa 50/50 for my rack at home, just because I prefer the 6L6's bottom end .
