Ada Mp-1

Jomo's Nimions
This is inspired by Jolly's Skid Row thread. I remember reading that ...And Justice for All was done with an MP-1. Is that tone really attainable with a preamp by itself?

Re: Ada Mp-1

i still have an mp-1. Yeah, it's great hot rod marshall tone, but it is noisy as ****.

i think ajfa was mostly mesas

Re: Ada Mp-1

A lot of stuff in the 80's metal scene was the MP-1. There is some mod out there which beefs it up and removes some noise, but I don't know the name of it off the top of my head.

Re: Ada Mp-1

I have CC Deville's MP-1
As seafoamer said it's great stock and the biggest issue is noise. There are mods (and a ton of other great info) at http://www.adadepot.com. Mine is currently stock but I'm going to try the Mod 4 Mk II mod (hot rodded JCM800) soon.

AJFA cd was done a mix between the ADA MP-1 and Mesa Mark IV. Most (if not all) cleans and some lead sounds on the AJFA cd were done with the MP-1.

I know what you mean about the noise.. check into the Noise Mod if you'd like. It reduces the Unit's noise by a large percentage. Ofcourse it wont completely kill the Highgain noise. thats somthing available on every highgain head out there, but it'll quiet the unit down pretty good.

Cheers

The best Mod for the MP-1 there is now is the 3TM mod from adadepot.com.

it makes the tone tighter, thicker, and makes the overall gain of the unit more clearer and more useful, even when cranked. But with the 3TM, you'll never need to crank the gain anywhere past 6 or 7, specially if you have High output pickups.

Hope that helps!

Yup, thats the one. Only heard about it a few times, the MP-1 doesn't get mentioned too often anymore.

Yeah i know.. I guess its cause of all these other "up to date" with technology preamps. mind you, most of those "up to date" preamps dont sound anywhere near how good the 3TM sounds.

I was able to compare to the 3TM MP-1 to an ENGL, Randall, Mesa, marshall and couple other preamps and to be honest, I always went back to the tone of my 3TM.

it was much tighter, clearer sounding and when going with highgain tones, it doesnt get all mushy and fizzy with no note seperation.

Cheers

Re: Ada Mp-1

Back in the late 80's i wanted the MP1 preamp so bad!!!!!!!!! could not afford it.... i saw a 80's metal cover band last year and their guitarist had an ADA Preamp thru a Peavey poweramp and a Marshall 4x12.... He told me he scored the ADA preamp off of EBAY for $150 with the foot controller.....
