Are you talking about the section that starts around 2:30? That's all BF-2, feedback and pick scrapes. Not an Epilady in sight.

Man, I miss playing with that Tool tribute. They kicked out the bassist, too. Now they're just shooting heroin in the drummer's studio. Great musicians who lose at life. Such a waste.

Yeah, that section. Those squeals live are really earsplittingly terrifying and he does it EVERY TIME exactly right.

Sad about the other half of Useful Idiot... what a shame.

Well if you're handling guitar, I think it'd be fun to handle the bass parts, myself.

Or, start a band that doesn't bottom feed off Tool. I mean Adam isn't bad, but getting to his level is shooting low IMO.

Just sayin. They're a lucky band with some great imagery, but there's no genius going on. I couldn't give a F what crappy Boss pedals he's using.

Woooooow. I thought you had a better perspective than that. I mean, if you don't like 'em, fine, but I think you'd be hard pressed to say that they didn't make some big leaps forward in a progressive music way.

If you wanna talk lucky but no genius going on, that's kind of what i see with Joe Bonamassa, who seems to be kind of a sacred cow in guitar circles. I've seen him live... pretty good player, but I wasn't impressed.

Oh well... to each his own.

Upon further inspection I think that IS a BF2... the HF2's had two rows of white lettering and this one looks like one row of black.

Nitpicking at details, testing powers of observation anyways. Whatevs.

I used to think that Tool was playing fairly simple stuff. Then I tried to figure out some of the poly rhythm stuff that Adam did on 'Jambi' from 10,000 years. I read somewhere that he worked to mimic Danny's drum part to come up with the limb independence guitar part on that track. Your fret hand and your picking hand are playing two very different rhythmic parts on this song. Try to learn it sometime... It's a challenge to get it to sound and feel right.

So what may sound like ordinary heavy math rock has a lot more substance to it than you think. I give these guys a LOT of credit for being who they are, and having a guitar player that can really dig into the heavy rhythm parts and gel with the drummer and bass player.

Yup, Adam is a much better and more complex player than he appears to be. The best way to discover that is to start learning their songs note for note.

That's kinda how I feel about all the big name virtuoso players, like who gives a f--- how many 12-bar blues or 6-2-5-1 progressions you can incessantly wank over? It's not creative, and it's not even that hard

Personally I have more respect for people who are progressing in regards to structure, rhythms, chords, etc and only solo when it would fit the song best. You know the players I'm talkin about, the ones who are just kind of "here and there" for most of the song

Pics of the pedal boards are awesome!

For me, the genius behind Tool is the SOUND and not necessarily the NOTES being played. This is why you guys have a hard time covering their music. I think Adam is a terrible guitar player but he has made some cool noise, especially on Aenima and Lateralus. Chancellor is a beast and I've always found his tone/playing to be perfect for the band.
