Add a Jazzmaster neck pup to a LP Jr Dbl Cut w P-90 dog-ear bridge?

I recently got a Vintage LP Jr. double-cut clone which feels good and would be more versatile with a neck pickup. I don't want to weaken the neck-body joint by routing near it. Will a SD Jazzmaster neck pickup compliment a SD Vintage P-90 dog-ear pickup by the bridge? The depth of the Jazzmaster is shallower than most pickups. Do you know of a better alternative? Thanks for your suggestions.

Welcome to the forum.

I can't think of a shallower alternative. But it's worth noting all 2x P90 Juniors and SGs are routed in the same place.

An important question to consider is what do all those flat pickup solutions sound like? It's not much of a benefit to avoid routing the guitar to install pickups if they aren't usable in context.

I'd say go P90. Or a P90 with rod mags if you want a slightly more Fendery character.
There are plenty of Specials that never had issues with weakness due to a neck pickup rout.

If you're very concerned, back it off from the neck joint by half an inch.
If you look at LP Specials, some have it right at the neck and others have it a bit closer to the bridge.
Not sure whether that was done for tone or for strength.
