Added a pickguard to my PRS...

In light of the "getting rid of the pickguard" thread...

I thought I'd post the final results my quick and easy project to ADD a PG to my new PRS SE Tremonti. I used an old Epiphone LP pickguard that I had in my parts bin. The spacing between the pickup rings leaves a little gap. So ideally I'll eventually find another PG that fits more snugly there. But it's just a cosmetic concern and I'm very happy with the results of this. I like the look, and more importantly... I've grown used to having a PG under my right hand finger tips, between my strats and LP RO that's got a PG on it. So it was bugging me that my finger tips had to extent further down to feel the top of the body. Plus... I wanted to protect the finish on such a sweet top.

Anyways... I cut-out two small rectangles from one of those sheets of clear plastic that you put on your tablet to protect the screen. I then put a few drops of Gorilla gel glue on the bottom corners of each piece and glued them to the pickup ring cutouts on the pick guard. I loosened the bottom screws of the pickup rings and slid the protruding parts of the rectangles under the rings, tightened the rings back to snug, and voila... a pickguard that doesn't require me to drill holes in the guitar. I may eventually get a sheet of thick crème-colored plastic and cut-out a PG that fits exactly and is shaped exactly how I want it to be. I did have to cut-off and sand the part of the PG up ahead of the front pickup ring.

Re: Added a pickguard to my PRS...

Nice work. Something about it doesn't look right to me - something about the bevel on the lower cutout of the body clashing with the pickguard. But I should add that I don't like pickguards on LPs either.

Still, it's cool to see people modding guitars that aren't commonly modded.

Yeah, I like to do something to mod my guitars from bone stock setups... even if only minor mods. I just like to personalize things to put my touch on them.

I actually dig the lines and how it all comes together. But I do like PGs on LPs. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholders I guess.

Thanks Jeremy. Yeah, I waver back and forth on the looks of PGs on LPs, but I never waver in my preference for the feel of them under my fingers. So the trade-off is worth it to me.

I want to do that exact thing to add a pickguard to my Gary Moore LP, but I have zero skill when it comes to stuff like this. I really don't want to drill into my LP either. Very nice work!

Very clever solution to mount the PG to avoid holes in the guitar. Kudos.

I too, however, don't like the looks of it. Something just seems off.

I agree on both here.. Sorry, I dont care for the visual of it. But A) if you like it, more power to ya! And B) If you feel it will protect that gorgeous top.... By all means!

I also agree that your mounting method was hella clever!
