Yes, typically almost all sites I come across these days, and moreso when there is payment involved, are https throughout the site.
 
I did notice that but it's now 2025. Any site with an unsecure cart ahead of payment raises a red flag for me. I work in IT and Security. That is a big nope.

How is that different from agreeing to buy a pickup on a web site, then going to PayPal to make the payment?

Simply agreeing to buy a pickup from say, the Trading Post here, and then going to PayPal or Venmo is very different. There's no ecommerce site involved, just an agreement between two individuals on the sale. This site has a secure certificate, BTW. Any ecommerce site should be 100% secure from front door, to shopping cart, to check-out, without question.

I think the open text communications prior citing the product and price between people on a forum are no different than an ecommerce site cart. There isn't any sensitive information exchanged until the payment.
