hi,

im buying a maple neck that has no logo on the headstock...its going on a strat project and i'f like a strat logo (not trying to decieve anyone...its purely for show/looks)

its a self adhesive logo that says it needs lacquer over the top. i have nitrocellul;ose clear lacquewr but think the finish on the neck will be poly.

what lacquer should i use and where can i get it from in the uk?

thanks

Re: adding decal to a neck help

Is it a waterslide decal?

Nitro over poly is fine. Poly over the decal should work as well depending on the decal. I know there's a guy in the UK who sells rattlecan nitro...but I can't remember th URL. If I find it I'll post it.

Be sure to spray several VERY light mist coats on the decal over the course of several days or it will lift and wrinkle (you'll ruin it)

Re: adding decal to a neck help

hi,

ok thats brilliant, i will buy the decal add it to the headstock.

then just apply very very thin coats of nitro over the poly untill it builds up, after that would it be ok to do a slightly thicker coat to add a bit of gloss to it?

thanks

Re: adding decal to a neck help

thats really interesting. unfortunately i dont have a laser printer, so i think i will be buying a logo which is a decal already.

i am jsut asking if these steps seem right...

1. sand the headstock so its wood.

2. apply the adhesive logo.

3. lacquer over the bare wood in nitro clear gloss.

4. have a descent looking neck????

will clear gloss nitro lacquer look strange on a headstock? should i try and get hold of some satin lacquer?

thanks

Re: adding decal to a neck help

1. Sand the headstock to wood.

2. Apply several coats of clear, lightly sand between coats.

3. Apply decal and let dry

4. Apply several more coats of clearcoat over the decal to seal it and finish the headstock.

Don't put it on raw wood, it won't stick and you will have ruined it. You may also want to consider applying some tint when it is down to raw wood (for that aged look) then put sealer on it, then then decal etc.
