Adjustable split in place of separate volumes

Have any of you tried a circuit for a 2-humbucker guitar that had a master volume and spin-a-splits for each pup instead of having 2 separate volumes?

I know decades of players have been satisfied with the 2 volume/2 tone layout of a Les Paul, but I'm still not all that happy with it. I'd rather have a master volume and a "balance" control for the relative output of the two pickups. The master volume combined with individual "slave" volumes seems to have way too many bad side effects.

So what to you all think? Good idea, dumb idea, whatever?

Related question, does anyone know of a single pot (possibly stacked) which is "no load" in the middle but could gradually split one pickup going to "1" and gradually split the other pup going to "10"?

Could I just make one the same way you make a "no load" pot, except the "no load" spot is dead center on a linear pot?
