How does one go about obtaining a no load tone pot?

John, (StratDeluxer97), has a great tutorial on how to make your own:

Making a no-load pot

If you want to just buy one, click on the link in my sig, go to the top, center section, and start perusing those links. There's some in there somewhere. ;)

I'd like to point out that the Fender no-loads are only available in 250k-A, which work just fine for most people, they have a small detent that clicks between about 9 and 10. You can also make them the way I do, take a dremel tool with a sandinding drum, and sanding the nylon stop down one one side, so that the wiper actually rotates to 11. That takes it off the pad totally and out of the circuit. There are three different ways to do a no-load, and all have pro's and cons, personal taste. John's is reverseable though, should you change your mind later though, the other two are not.
Lew has some for sale, at a good price, I don't think John sells any though.
Correct me if I'm wrong here John. PM Lew for details.

You can also ramp up your brightness by installing a 1Meg pot instead of a 500K on the volume.

"Couldn't you just make 10 louder?''

"But, this one goes up to 11." :laugh2:

I pretty much disconnect all the tones on my guitars, save for a few where they are more crucial to the overall character of the instrument. I like the silky top end you can achieve in high gain applications-- very smooth and touch responsive, and the absence of treble bleed drives the amp a little harder-- that's also the trick to getting those Dimarzio HS pickups to gain some balls.

But ours go to 11 .... :laugh2:

Yeah, I new that was comming, good thing a bought some 0~11 knobs from DMZ to go with them ... :laugh2: Actually those are still spaced withing the 0~10 spacing, so they wouldn't actually help matter there.

I have a 250k with .047uf cap tone setup in one of mine, it has HS 2,1,and 3 (neck to bridge) ... if I want balls (clean or dirty) I click the old shockwave preamp ... :saeek: Man, I wish they'd bring those back ... :cool3:

Re: Advantages of having NO tone pot?

I bypassed the tone control on my Dean with the Invader pickup. The tone still operates for the front pickup, but the Invader goes straight to the jack from the volume knob. My bass player said it was sounding like the notes were exploding out of the guitar. I think it sounds quite nice myself.

With the No Load Tone Pot you can have that and still have a tone control and the ability to dial out highend if needed...It's a great mod and you lose nothing from it,plus the pots can be made by you in about 10 minutes time...See my tutorial in The Vault section..

I think those sound really great. I did that to my Dean because I didn't like the 2 volume 1 tone knob configuration. Since I use the tone full on normally in the bridge pup but sometimes roll it back on the neck, this seemed like a logical move.

Re: Advantages of having NO tone pot?

I am constantly using the tone control in my guitars. I *like* the sound without the added brightness.
