Advice on new PUPs for Ibanez DTT700

Love the guitar, great neck, looks good as well, but the sound of the stock D Activator X are not what I want. I want a smooth classic sound, rhythm rather than lead most of the time. I am not sure if the Maple /Walnut though body, Rosewood board and the stick on Mahogany wings will have any impact on the sound. Do not want to change the guitar, but want good advice before I go spend my money. Not sure anyone has one of these or if anyone has a through neck construction guitar that could help advise me. Play through a small Marshall Valve combo.

Cheers Jock.

OK, no advice so I too k out PuPs I have in my old V a 59 in the Neck and Custom 5 in the bridge. Sounds a bit darker that they do in my old 70s Mahogany bolt on neck V, but a vast improvement on the DActivator X even if the output is lower. Will work with it for a few weeks to see if I want to change them for something differant. Not sure I am 100% happy with the sound, it may grow on me.

Cheers Jock.

Welcome aboard!

C5/'59N is a great set of PU's, and if the sound isn't quite what you want. they both are very versatile with magnet swaps as well. What are you looking for tone-wise in each PU?

I agree with blue man. That's a good choice. If the mids are to scooped try a8 or ceramic

To be honest, I do not know. But I will know when I find it. I think it is almost there on my Custom 68 with 57s but I also throught that it was there when I originally put in the SDs in my old V years back. Not sure if getting older and my hearing is just shot. I am very lucky to have a few guitars and most of the time do not alter them, but the Destroyer sound was not right for ( maybe OK for some music) but I am an old bloke and want some musical tone from my guitar. I really want the holy grail "the sound of the 70s"

Cheers.
