after a lull, back to playing

I hit a lull for several months. I got over it by just playing some Bass guitar to Michael Jackson and other songs I could play as a beginner. Then I am back to playing although a bit rusty.

Here is one of my songs from last year. les paul studio with pearly gates, orange jim root at low volume mid gain, orange ppc cab. ezdrummer. recorded sound with zoom and video with gopro

Cool, I love watching guys perform their own stuff. There needs to be a thread of SDUGF members doing original things.

There seem to be very few forum members that write (and complete) original music. I wish more would post, though, I love listening to original music!

I’ve always wanted to write more but to be honest, I was never very good at it. And so, i always shied away from it. I have written a few things here and there but it’s never come easy.
I had a friend that was really good at writing....he was a natural. I was always a little envious of him. But that’s how it goes. Some people are meant to be the writers (my friend) and some are meant to be the sideman (me).
And I’m ok with that.

There is no rules that says 'if you play, you MUST write'. I am a very prolific writer, having written two albums since the Summer, and am working on the third; I released the first one in December. This is probably unusual!

I am a very prolific writer, too...and have only been in original bands my whole life.

Same here! Every time I try to learn a cover I get inspired to write something new lol. In a way, it's a curse, because I've never learned to play a cover straight through with the laser-like precision of someone like LLL.

Usually, if we do covers they are from, like the 1930s...so I get to have fun with them. I don't mind doing a cover once in awhile, but it isn't why I play guitar at all.

oops I miss this discussion. Thanks for all the replies. I'm preparing myself mentally to write some new songs this year, probably in a different style with a different tone. I'm not a great guitar player but I can compose tunes. Thanks for checking it out.
