How to Spice Up My Bass playing

Back on the OX, Squire, Geddy topic.....

Point is learn to play fluidly up the neck and down the neck instead of moving up and down strings at the same fret position -it makes bass playing more rhythmic and WAY MORE rocking and fun.

When I see these bass players who's fret hand never moves -only moves between the strings or a few frets, I'm thinkin they are missing out totally on the magic of bass playin' -it's all about bouncin' up the fretboard and mixing it in with a big bottom open string.

Also, a lot of bass players start off as guitarists, Paul McCartney, noel Reading, and others. Guitar players turned bassists obviously have a different approach to the bass. I have sometimes even heard this as a slam "he sounds like a guitarist playing bass". But there are a ton of fantastic bass players that started as guitarists, I would dare say most of them.

Without a doubt.
Where do you hear the Oxes influence?

I hear it in the earlier Rush stuff...the first 3 or 4 albums, when Alex's playing was simpler. Ox had such an odd way of playing...it fit The Who, but it might not be great for busier bands.
