Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

WITH FULL DISTORTION

F. Hails Railsologist
****ing Hails Guys!!!
How Are Yah?
i asked this many times, but now there´s the last one i guess.. cause i have tested a fell duncans and emgs and etc and i have a little bit of experience so... i want an advice...

do you think i need a custom shop duncan or one of the product lines will fill my needs properly?

D or C tuning
Basswood Body.
floyd rose.
24' scale.
24 frets.

Death/Black/Thrash Metal
lOTS OF DISTORTION

I USE Line 6 Uber metal, instead of the old metalzone that i´ll sell when i comeback home...

No amp yet, but possible a Marshall Valvestate or a Crate Gxt amp.. IF i could not afford the ****ing 5150 HEAD.

so.. i want
the tightes BASS possible. like the emg 81. Note,i dont´want a LOT of bass, i just want it Tight... So...an eq lIKE 4 is enough of bass for me.
Output, can be as High as a Seymour Duncan CustomCustom, maybe 10% More. but the same as the CC is Enough. something like 18k dc res.

Middles.. cRUSHING AND chunky . like the customcustom.
eq wise like 7.

and Highs, just like the Custom custom, but more articulated .
like 8 eq wise.

this is for the bridge.

for the neck
Smooth Bass, lots of crushing Mids, and warm and articulated Highs.
eq wise - 5 - 6- 7 !!!!

your thoughts please gentlemen?!?!

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

also, i want to state the likes and dislikesof the duncans i´ve owned
custom custom, not enough tightness in the bass.
emg 81, harsh highs, but the output ,articulation and middles areperfect.
customfive. POOR middles. harsh overal sound.
59 ,lack of mids, jazz very good, but need BALLS....andmids.
screaming demon.. too brittle highs and mids.
Jb, not enough Bass.... and it can sound VERY annoying in the highs in some guitars.
Duncan distortion... Dry,harsh sound . didn´tlike.
not articulated neough in the bass.

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

Sounds like a slightly overwound Custom is what you want. Maybe try the Custom, and get an A8 magnet to try in it I hear those are awesome.

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

Custom sounds perfect for you.

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

Thank´sGuys
Q:)
Jeff.. The Duncan Custom ?
what about the Mids? aren´t They Kinda Scoopedlike the Dimebucker?

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

Yep, you want the Custom. If you still have your Custom Custom, swap the A2 magnet out for a ceramic and there you have a Custom.

WHAT UP WITH THAT?

ERIK H
welll... i STILL HAVE MY hotrails-customcustomset
BUT idon´tknow how to change the magnets
AND i still need a ****ing ceramic BAR.
in fact... what i want to do is.. turn my C5 trembucker nickel cover into a customcustom, to pair with the jazznecK nickelcover on my new repainted fender strat... and keep the custom custom that is in my CHARVEL FUSION DELUXE.

i´ll do that, turn my CC into a DC.
i´ll give this another try... before swapping pickups.
i´m almost convinced to get a Bare Knuckle combo for me.
And store the emgs in my locker room, and throw in a set of Unholy dimarzios in my Charvel fusion dinky, before sell it.
cause the 81/85 are ****ing dry and bright(not shrill, kinda harsh, dry,raw in the highs of the 81 in the bridge. noproblems with the 85 in the neck).
so,i´m thinking Air Norton in the Neck, and The Breed Bridge, Or Tone Zone.
what do you think?
it´s Ash Body

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

I haven't done magnet swaps myself but from what I've been reading in other threads, it doesn't seem all that hard. With one pickup and a few different magnets, you'd have a slew of options. With the Custom series, you can go from the DC to the CC to the C5 all with a magnet swap.

What guitar are you having issues with?

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

I´m having issues with both Charvels
the fusion deluxe, and the fusion dinky.
the deluxe is the low E that is too much flabby, plugged and unplugged, and the floyd is detuning frequently and going out of intonation too.
and on the fusion dinky.. the issue is with the Tone.. and the position of the floyd. the floyd is a little AHEAD in comparison to the fusion deluxe that i´m used more.. and that prevent me to pick the strings The way i´mused to in the fusion AND in the fender...
if i pick the same way(somethign that i won´t change) i´ll scratch the NECK pup.
tHATS UGLY.

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

Ok, what kind of amp are you playing through? Are both Charvels made of basswood?

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

i always plays in the rehearsalroom with a crate gx 60 and crate gx 80.
but i have no amp at the moment.
i can play it through a marshall vs 100 or vs80
but the CC doesn´t sound good in the Crate.. it overpowers the ampwith so much mids, ahahah but with the marshall.. it fits perfectly.. but LACKS the tightnessin the bass in BOTH amps...
and the highs Are Nirvanic in both amps.
Q:)
output is cool too.
J.P
i´ll get Either a crate gxt80 or a Marshall VS100
if i can´t afford the 5150 Head.

Re: Again, Last Time pickup Choice.

Here's my advice. Get your amp first and then deal with the pickups later. The ceramic Custom will most likely suit your needs. If you absolutely have to do something about it before getting your amp, then get a couple of magnets and swap them. That's the cheapest alternative. If you're running a Boss Metal Zone, that's probably not helping matters either.

Sounds like the Fusion needs a good setup too. Adjust the height of the pickups to find the sweet spot. Of course, with EMG's the closer the better. I bet the issue with the Fusion is with the body wood and not the pickups. If it's basswood, then that is where the flabbyness is coming from. Without a maple cap, it will be flabby. The DC will most likely help out here.

As for the Fusion Deluxe, it should have a pretty sweet tone with the CC in the bridge already. What's wrong with the tone of this one?

Hails man, just a thought: aren't you looking into the wrong direction with this?
If most pups sound harsh to you might it not be an amp issue?

I would recommend getting a nice high gain amp (or a good clean one which takes distortion boxes well) to get you in the right direction. AFTER that you can finetune your pickups to taste.
