Agile 3100's seem too good to be true

Re: Agile 3100's seem too good to be true

If you are still looking at single cuts, the one that is closer to being to good to be true is the Michael Kelly Patriot line. They blow the agiles out of the water imo. The only problem some might find with the patriots is they arent really true LP copies, where the agiles have that LP vibe going for them. The Patriots are more similar to the Schecter Solo guitars.

yessir! EVERYTIME I play my patriot custom, Im impressed. If it had the typical 4 knob arrangement, it would be nearly perfect.

some PAtriots do have the 4 knob layout, i personally love master volume, 2 tones

Re: Agile 3100's seem too good to be true

Im not someone who must have an american, custom made, super expensive guitar, seeing as i considered Agile's thats obvious. I play a Mexi Strat which is awesome.

Agile's do seem like a cool option, only bad thing is i could never play them before buying.

If you bought one, you get 30 days to run it through its paces. If you dont like it, all you have to do is go to the webstie and fill out an RMA. They email you a prepaid UPS label, so you ship it back and they credit your account when they get the guitar. I did the process once, it was surprisingly quick and ended up not costing me a dime to check out a 3100 for a couple weeks. That gave me the confidence in the process enough to order another one, which I kept.

Holy Hell :o that guitar is way too nice ! goddamn ! I love natural guitars, doesnt look good always like on some Kramer Assault, but that is just right on!

The site pics make it look crappy kinda, but your pics are nice. I love the little details it has, the knobs for example.

Jesus Christ, had to edit this post to add this, i just checked it out on LA Music online (in Canada :P not LA ahahhaha) these guitars are definitely way too awesome for the price.
Where are they made ?

Depends on the model. The higher end ones are korean made while the entry level ones are made in china. The decree and standard models are the chineese made ones if iirc. I've played a few decrees and can attest that the quality is there.

That particular (limited) one is korean made I believe. It would be considered a higher end one which will run maybe 400-500 bucks new.

If you keep an eye on ebay, you can snatch a real bargain every now and then. A few months back I snagged a Patriot black. It has an ebony board, tone pros bridge, grover tuners, full binding, rockfield pickups and a 1/2" maple cap. All for $125 shipped.

That is true! thanks for the input!

Woah thats a deal and a half!! Brand new online with shipping, taxes, at my door i can get the limited for 678$ which is still awesome for its features. I like that BC Rich and this company are related directly, i am a big fan of BCR's, never owned one played a few, and these guitars are similar. With high taxes in Ontario, 13%, 678$ is actually pretty damn good.

Have you had any problems with the MK Guitars themselves ?

Re: Agile 3100's seem too good to be true

The patriot black I bought was used. It did have an issue with the toggle switch when I received it. It would only work for the bridge pickup. The neck pickup was dead with the toggle in the neck position. I ended up replacing the toggle switch and then pulling the toggle out altogether and putting a push pull in its place to do the pickup selection.

The biggest gripe I have with the MK patriots is when they put the toggle where the tone pot should be on some models. It functions alright there, i just hate the look of it.

This is how it turned out. I have it so the front chrome knob is the bridge volume. The black knob is the neck volume and does the pickup switching. The back chrome knob is the tone control and push pull coil splits both pickups.

I also have a MK Vex. I liked that guitar so much, its the reason why I got the patriot. It has Rockfield active pickups and they sound pretty huge. What I really like about all the MKs ive playes is that they are all really resonant. Very loud acoustically and sustain very well.

Im guessing that i wouldnt most likely have any problems with a brand new toggle switch.

I love the ebony fb, tuners, pickups, ability of push/pull, knobs, inlays, ect on the Limited. Would you say there's some ways to make an improvement to these already awesome axes ?

The limited would be perfectly fine right out of the box. Unless you want to mod for mod sake, then whatever pickup/control swap you want is doable, but not necessarily an improvement. The pickups, pots, switches and wiring are all good quality. If you want CTS pots, you will probably have to open the holes slightly as they are drilled for the narrow shaft pots. The control cavities are all also shielded.

This to me is the holy grail of patriot models. I dont think they make them anymore for some odd reason, so they arent as easy to find, but they are out there. Im thinking they were probably replaced by the premiums, though the premiums are 24 frets while the supremes are 22.

Re: Agile 3100's seem too good to be true

I spent £200 on e-bay getting an Agile 3100 (second hand). I spent another £300 and for £500 I can honestly say it is now beats the pants off so many Gibson les Pauls out there for a fraction of the cost. And I know, I have owned and played many in 30 years of playing.......... This is why in a nut shell........

1. Resonance - the guitar weights around 9lb and the woods are very good quality with a thickish Canadian maple cap (I know cos I replaced the stop bar studs!)
2. Installed a bone nut - better sustain and resonance and perfectly cut
3. Installed Seymour Duncan 59 pickups - great PAF sound !
4. Installed Gotoh bridge - notches cut perfectly
5. Fitted aluminium tailpiece and gibson heavy duty studs
6. Guitar action set up perfectly

The guitar looks fantastic and sounds fantastic and won't break your back by the end of a two hour set on stage !! If I could get another one for the same price in the UK I would buy another an do exactly the same thing - I may have fallen lucky with the wood but at £200 t was worth the chance.....
