Air Norton in neck, how does it sound when split?

How does the Air Norton sound in the neck position when split? Looking for something better for thinner/cleaner/brighter neck position stuff.

It sounds pretty good in full humbucker mode for jazzier stuff, since it's kind of rolled off/mellow in the high end, but I'm hoping that splitting it will help get me the sound I want.

If you can go parallel -you may be amazed by the bell tones ..

Bright and raspy. Parallel is a better option.

The guitar is a tele w/ the Air Norton in the neck and a Chopper T in the bridge, w/ 250K pots. I plan on switching the volume pot to a 500K and then adding a push/pull on the tone knob for either coil tap or possibly series/parallel. Will running parallel drop the output down any?

I did the split coil thing on a Dimarzio Super Distortion T bridge pickup in my esquire and that sounds about right-- not really too raspy though. Of course for that guitar, I wanted something that would work for clean funk stuff, and bright and a slightly raspy works great for that.

You get a slightly lower output sound but the thing you notice most is that it gets cleaner and it has a cool 3D psuedo acoustic sound. It would be a good sound for funk.

I'm thinking to make this tele more versatile, I'll probably just change the Fender "no load" tone pot to a push/pull pot for series/parallel on the neck pickup, that way I'll have the standard tele pickup selection (bridge, bridge+neck, neck) like it is now, but with a couple extra sounds; "neck parallel" and "neck parallel + bridge".

And a 500K volume pot in place of the current 250K pot to get me a little more sparkle.

I think it sounds pretty good split, but I prefer it in humbucker mode.

At the very least I'll have my tech rewire the Air Norton in parallel as opposed to series (which is how it's wired now). I can probably forego a push/pull pot and just have it wired parallel all the time which from the sound of it, would fit my needs better. No sense in having an option for series if I don't need that sound.

Re: Air Norton in neck, how does it sound when split?

Not too much. The output drop is about %30 (which I believe is true for all humbuckers wired in parallel).

That would be the perfect amount for me to be able to balance it better w/ the Chopper T in the bridge. Even though they're supposed to have almost the same output (270 for Air Norton and 260 for Chopper T) the fact that the Air Norton is a full sized humbucker makes it seem bigger and boomier than the Chopper T, no matter where I set it, height-wise.

If I do the push/pull pot, I may have it set so the down position is parallel and the up position is series, since I imagine myself using the parallel option alot more often, mainly for volume matching w/ the bridge pickup (and a thinning of the tone). Then I can just pull up on the knob for a volume/fat boost.
