Akai Riff'O'Matic and other Phrase Trainers.

One thing I've always wanted, but never bought is a phrase trainer.....basically a unit that digitally records difficult passages from a CD, slows them down, and tunes them back up to pitch. I'd finally be able to clearly hear all the notes at a speed that's easier to grasp, when trying to figure out songs or solos.

Anyone have one? What brand?
Anyone else looking at them?

Here's an Akai on Ebay.

I don't know if you practice near a computer, but you can download a free program called BestPractice that will do the same thing with MP3s. Pitch shift, slow down (without detuning), and phrase repeating, along with a handy dandy karaoke mode.

i use an alesis playmate...which is a glorified CD player that you can speed up/slow down and transpose (and loop) any song, or section of a song. it is very fast and easy.

I've seen the CD player type ones, and agree that it looks more convenient.
I don't like the idea of having to hook up a CD player to the Akai. At least they're pretty cheap these days.
