Album nears completion -- ENTHRONED (old school/prog metal/Judas Priest/Rainbow)

TwilightOdyssey

Darkness on the edge of Tone
Almost done the first pass at the final mixes for my band's album; it's been a long process getting to this point, but we're almost there!

Thought I would share a mix from the album. This is my personal favourite track, Enthroned. Basic tracks were recorded live @ SIR in NYC. 2nd guitar and harmonies were tracked at the same time.

I added Mellotron, bass pedals, and acoustic guitars in the comfort of home afterwards. Recorded and mixed using Cubase 6 (except for the vox).

Vox were tracked at Atlantic Sound in Brooklyn by my man, Diko.

Guitar for this one was a 1980 Gibson SG R1, all stock, into a BB Preamp/East Studio 2/1970's Hiwatt 4x12 combo, mic'd from 2ft away using a Shure SM57.

Not much else to say about it.

Feel free to download the song for the highest resolution; the stream is pretty dodgy, in my opinion. http://soundcloud.com/labyrinth-lord/enthroned-test-mix2

Enthroned

The princes of the serpent throne
Feed on the carcass of mankind
They rape your lands then lick their bloodied hands
While they crush and break your minds
All their words are bitter wormwood; their benevolence slavery
All their truths are cunning falsehoods; their religion blasphemy
The overseers of the snake lord
Lash the back of humanity
They get their kicks while they count the licks
Bringing ruin to the sky and sea
All their love is domination, the concern insincerity
All their pledges are hidden daggers, their compassion cruelty
And the jackboot marches on
Lockstep with subjugation
Fires of tyranny burn the songs
And erase the memory of fallen nations
The iron throne
The godless seat
The broken flesh
The bloodied streets
Enthroned

I like it! Retro but fresh at the same time! :)

Now show us a pic of that SG. ;)

This is really terrific. Which means even more coming from me, who almost as a rule dislikes female singers (unless its death metal growls, in which case the chick from Arch Enemy is awesome).

Sounds really nice! I dig the vintage vibe going on. Thought about putting a bit of reverb to the drums and maybe vox?

There already is, and you would hear it if the tracks were solo'd, but I prefer a drier tone, overall. I usually use 'verb just to tie elements together. Plus, there is so much room sound/mic bleed going on with this stuff that it would kind of defeat the purpose to add audible reverbs. There is one song on the album, The Road which has a lot of big 'verb and echo going on, however...
