Albums recorded with Custom 5 or Full Shred?

I'm interested in both these pickups, anyone know albums recorded with them? i heard Vivian Campbell used Full Shred's in whitesnake but i don't know if he used them on any album.

Video clips are also welcome of course, any good audio of both those pickups, i've watched most youtube videos, but full shred videos are basically downtuned metal and the custom 5 videos leave a lot to be desired

Paul Stanley has used the C5 for years, take a listen to KISS

P.s.

Here's a video I made that shows some of the tones of a Custom 5. It doesn't have the full shred but it does have a good portion of dirty and clean, rhythm and lead, sorta stuff so might still give you an idea about what the pickup sounds like. I'm not ready to 'publish' the video yet but you should still be able to view it here.

The Custom 5 has a lot more bass, and therefore, seems more scooped than the FS. How much bass do you need? 80s metal= FS. 90s-now djent, nu or progressive metal, Custom 5.

Akira Takasaki of the Japanese heavy metal band 'Loudness' uses the Custom 5 in his Killer brand guitars. Checkout The albums Thunder in the East and Lightning Strikes.

May I add Gothic Metal do that list?

To the OP, I use those pickups in two different guitars, the only similarities being they are FR-equipped, 24-fret SuperStrats. In what guitar are you planning either of the pickuos going into?

Most of Ola Englund's more recent stuff is the Duncan Solar which is based off the Custom 5.

AFAIK, lots of Opeth stuff is the Full Shred.

Didn't Napalm Death use Full Shred on several albums in the 90s?

For Custom 5, look no further than Necrophagist's album Epitaph. You'll be able to hear the clarity in the pickup and the smooooooth brutality at the same time.

Those are real examples but I'm sorry. I'll go now.

Dave, it's interesting that some people say the Full Shred is basically the Custom wind, with an A-5 magnet like the Custom 5. That would mean that the only real difference between the two, is the double row of hex heads. True, or not? If it is true, that would mean swapping to regular fillister screws would easily change a person's FS into a C5. I guess I skipped right to the next step with a mag change to A-8 (because Custom-8 is always well regarded), AND changed the bridge side hex heads to fillisters. Wasn't sure i liked it at first, but it's growing on me. Sounds really "beefy" in comparison, chords sound tight and cohesive but with some string individuality still coming through; seems like best suited to rhythm but lead notes still have some nice bite and sustain. What to call it? How about, "Full Custom 8?" ;) I'm gonna work with it a while longer, but so far i'm digging it.

I don't think the Full Shred sounds much like a Custom 5...a Custom 5 has way more bass, which is the biggest difference.

Re: Albums recorded with Custom 5 or Full Shred?

Ok. I'm still trying to determine how useful the sound of the "Full Custom 8" really is. I have played a Custom 5, in a demo guitar, and really liked its tone. Thanks!

...Although you have kind of skirted the question as to whether they ARE the same winds, and if so whether the hex screws are the only thing that makes the difference. ??? ( I know they're both Alnico 5 magnets.) Inquiring minds want to know! :P

I would personally have no idea. I just don't have an answer for you.

Re: Albums recorded with Custom 5 or Full Shred?

As a matter of fact,no.

Suiçmez used EMG 81/85 on his Ibanez Xiphos, on his BC Richs he had a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck and a EMG-HZ4 in the bridge.

In his Vigier he had a Seymour Duncan SH-5 (the ceramic Custom) onboth positions, later switching the bridge for a DiMarzio X2N.

For solos he used his brother's Ibanez JEM with a DiMarzio PAF Pro as a neck pickup.

On Napalm Death, no release make me think of a FS being used.
