Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

wonder why he chose ESP as opposed to say...Dean (seeing as Eric Peterson has a sig model with them)

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

ESP probably offered more money. Usually that's what an endorsement deal comes down to.

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

Im curious about the Alex Skolnick Duncan signature pickup set that comes in the ESP?? I do like the headstock on that one.

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

I associate Alex with more traditional, old-school guitars. I'm kind of surprised it wasn't Gibson or PRS. ESP just seems too modern of a take on a classic for him. Just my opinion.

Those signature Duncan's have me more than curious! :fing2:

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

And just how are they going to get around the dimarzio trademark for that?

They just need to invent bobbin plastic that starts out life in some other color, then fades to creme when exposed to direct sunlight for 15 minutes.

+1, I would have picked him for Gibson or PRS as well. Could have seen him with the PRS SC58 for sure, the fact that he chose ESP does peek my interest as a whole, not just the sig pickups (which I would like to know more about).

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

What was he wanting from Heritage exactly? He mentioned on FB that it was hard to get a heritage guitar, even for him. I guess that means he bangs them up being on the road so much and he wants a new one every so often. Or do you think it means they aren't even making any at all? Do you think he had some type of stipulation in a contract that he'd get one made for him every so many years?

When people say it comes down to money - you mean he's wanting the money from the sales of guitars with his name on it? I could see ESP selling more in that regard. Or do you mean money in the form of a free new guitar when he needs one?

Obviously he loves the heritage vibe - it looks like ESP copied his silverburst more or less. He talks about durability - was something on his heritages breaking? I've seen a video where his tech had to re-solder something in the studio but otherwise, what wouldn't be durable on a heritage LP?

with no vision for the future.

yikes, that doesn't sound good. what's their MO then?

By no vision for the future, I assume he means that Heritage just does what they do. No updates, no plans to ramp up production to get the product out. Just go at their pace

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

Alex has also performed as a member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and on collaborations with such luminary players as Stu Hamm, Les Claypool, Michael Manring, Ozzy Osbourne, and others.

Ozzy Osbourne is a "luminary player"?! :33: :omg:

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

Heritage Guitars are made the same exact way Gibsons were made in the 50's, with the exception that they are now using a Plek machine- which Gibson has since adopted. Heritage used to be a good buy, at around $1400, when a Gibson went for much more, but they've recently raised the prices- Gibson quality also improved, so Heritage isn't as attractive as it used to be.

Not to mention the endorsement- I doubt Heritage was able to sell many of his guitars, as Heritage guitars are difficult to get or find. Meanwhile, a contract with ESP gives you the choice of a high end ESP model or middle range LTD model- and the LTD models, in this economy, are likely to sell more aad make him a bit more money off an endorsement than Heritage would

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

no joke, the only heritages I ever see are on this board. ever.

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

From the announcement he made- it sounds like he switched ship the same reason Alex Laiho left Jackson- Skolnick's about to start a tour with Testament and needed a few new road worthy guitars- Heritage couldn't come through in time so he went to ESP- a huge company that could quickly make them in time.

I presume something like a 'sign-up fee' when he first embarked on the partnership. He should have no problem buying new guitars out of his own pocket.

Re: Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage Guitars Inc.

At the same time, I doubt seriously Alex's endorsement has brought in a flood of orders for Heritage, as he is about as relevant these days as... well...not very relevant at all. Not to mention, Heritage's typical customer probably could not care less if they DID know who Alex Skolnick is. Not to take anything away from his talent, just his influence in the grand scheme of guitardom

Endorsements work both ways.
