All hail the mighty JB!!!!!!!

Re: All hail the mighty JB!!!!!!!

A JB in a Strat is, IMO, unbeatable.
One of the very best recipes ever for a great Hard Rock sound.
IMO, a Pearly Gates in a strat is the best mix if your strat sounds great by itself, but in most strats, the JB is the safest choice.

I have a JB and a 59 in a 1984 Squier Strat. One of those 2 humbucker/no pick guard strats. Absolutely perfect for that guitar! It is a tone machine!

Re: All hail the mighty JB!!!!!!!

My 1979 JB and 2015 JB are night and day. The butyrate bobbin / roughcast mag JBs are the ones to have. Wider frequency response bass to treble, but smooth top end, cleans up well. Gigged an SG with the old one just this weekend.

Re: All hail the mighty JB!!!!!!!

Yea the debate about the JB over the years has been mentioned so many times. With that said, recently, I have been listening to Megadeth Rust in Peace a ton, but with a new set of ears. That album really captures the tonal qualities of the pickup at that time (most likely an MJ-wound model). Just listen to Marty's solos-the singing quality of that pickup is hard to beat! Marty's Jackson Kelly was just one JB pickup, one volume knob and thats it....

Does anybody know when SD switched from Rough-cast A5's to smooth? Were other older A5 pickups made with the RCA5 mag?

Re: All hail the mighty JB!!!!!!!

My cheapo LP copy with the JB PUP has tons of harmonics. I wonder if the location of the JB is different in that guitar, closer or farther from the bridge?

Re: All hail the mighty JB!!!!!!!

Just JB Jazzed the knockaround Sparkle Strat; what a wonderful pickup, the JBJ. Still think I prefer the Jazz Bridge and Demon overall (especially when cleans or dynamics are needed,) but this is such a harmonic, rich pickup, and very balanced. That lead tone...

I don't know about that guitar, but the location certainly makes a difference in harmonics.
