If you ever get a chance to play with a THD Univalve, or Bivalve, they have a switch for two different plate voltages. That way you can hear the effect it has on your tone. It's pretty interesting, and not always what you'd expect. Different tubes definitely like different voltages better. Some higher, some lower.

Good call man. One day my rig sounded like garbage and I was tempted to go sell it and today it sounds divine. I noticed finally that I had too many pedals, too many rack pieces, and crap. I don't have any pedals in the FX chain.... just a noise gate, EQ, distortion, comprossor, and a couple of tube screamers. A Beano Boost and one of these Spina SD-1's I keep hearing about will have me sitting pretty. But first must come a JCM800 2210, '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue, 5 or 6 strats.... it just never ends.

I'd have to say the info you've given us is true Lew.My amps did sound harsh and cold this morning and I have seen the variances here at my own home through the wall outlets..Seems like voltage regulation might be the ticket if the voltages do raise up even higher...Yet my Valvetronix amp sounded great as always?

Because its a solid state. Well... partialy lol.

You're talking about my Vox right? Yeah...But whatever,it consistently sounds great! Just a great amp! :dance: It also has 2 little 12AX7s in there.. :laugh2:

I was messing with this "Guv'nor" pedal that I built off of JD Sleep's Guitar Gadget website...This pedal sounded amazing upon completion a few days ago and after some added tweaks..Today I plugged first straight into my Marshall,then my BF Pro Reverb,and things just don't sound too inspiring to me today?I then plugged into the pedal and things went from bad to worse(Weird).. Probably just male menopause or mid life crisis or something huh? :laugh2:

I put my Tele back in it's case and called it a day... :newangel:

LOL, I´ve got exactly the same problem... My Microverb sounds like crap, my Marshall is in the shop, my H&K all of a sudden seems anemic, all of my Jacksons have finger fungus from the studio save one and I have no interest in doing setups today....

Think I´m gonna build models or clean up or something...

LOL, I´ve got exactly the same problem... My Microverb sounds like crap, my Marshall is in the shop, my H&K all of a sudden seems anemic, all of my Jacksons have finger fungus from the studio save one and I have no interest in doing setups today....

Yesterday I bought the Guitar Player issue with Eric on the front...It's an interesting read because he talks about his current gear setup and there's some pictures of his amp and board also...I Love EJ's whole tone and vibe on his heavy stuff...
