Alleged 16 Ohm cab measures 14 ohms?

So, tonight I was wondering whether or not my friend's 16 ohm cab was really 16 ohms or not (maybe the previous owner rewired it? :laugh2: ). I took my Fluke to the cable running from the speaker jack and I'm only metering 14 ohms! Is this normal? Could this be due to a speaker on its way out?

Maybe the resistance of the speaker wears over time? Thats a pretty big gap.

That is normal. I have a Marshall cab that measures 13.8 and Mesa cab that measures 7.3 and they are in good health. Speakers like pickups and pots, have a tolerance range.

What he said, the DCR will not be the same as the nominal impedance, it will be slighly lower, the actual resistance varies with frequency (that's why it's given as a nominal impedance, and not absolute) ... yeah, you're fine.
