Alnico 2 pro + JB

Re: Alnico 2 pro + JB

Bluesman, I have the APII in the neck and a Distortion in the bridge on an LP, would swapping positions even things out? Are these models really position specific like they're marked on the box?

Yeah, in the bridge, the A2P would seem brighter and low output, while the Distortion would be an unruly monster in the neck. The A2P part of the formula seems fine. If the Distortion is too domonating, lower it a bit from the strings. Could try a tamer alnico in it too, like an A2.

Position specific isn't a big deal in PAF's, where both are similar output. When there's a big gap in resistance (ohms), it makes a difference.

Not in LP but I liked that combo VERY much in my tele. EQing took a while but when I found the right spots it was a very good combo.

Re: Alnico 2 pro + JB

I use a jb and ap2 in almost every guitar. But I'm a metal guy, don't know if that helps. I find they match up perfectly.

Re: Alnico 2 pro + JB

Before I decided that my Les Paul needed to have a more "classic" pallet of tones, I ran an APH and a JB for several years and loved it. These days I used a 59n/PGb.

Re: Alnico 2 pro + JB

This might be my interpretation alone but maybe it is useful for somebody:

The APH neck (as opposed to the bridge) is very smooth and doesn't have any kind of edge and can be boring. But that can make it an excellent choice for complicated rigs, in particular those that use high gain and a couple of EQs.

The 59 is the opposite and just the pickup alone can be boomy, snorty, is scooped and can be all kinds of annoying, but a 59 in the neck does (IMHO) what a JB does in the bridge, which is help you will all those poppy and screechy noises you need for metal solos (in the neck). And all it takes is a medium-high gain, echo and maybe a chorus.

So although I see similarities between the JB and the 59 I don't see them as a pair, because you don't play them both at the same time.

Maybe I just had too much coffee.
