alnico 5 humbuckers

hello
i got a guitar as a present - it looks like a basswood body with maple top and rosewood neck.
asked a local guitar store guy about an idea for pickups , and also a pickup builder - they both told me about alnico 5 humbuckers.

their recemmendation were Seymour Duncan JB for bridge and 59 for neck , OR kent armstrong hot rod.

i hava already SD humbuckers on 2 of my guitars (slash on one , and seth lover on both).

i would like to hear your ideas - this is not a great guitar so i am not sure i want to buy an expensive set but still i want a good sound humbuckers.

I play with laney vc30 / vox ac 30/ vox lil night train amps and vox tonelab multi effect.
i play rock/all around and i need/want warm sound with great clean.
my "heavy" sound is between crunch and light distortion - i am not playing metal.

please help me.
thanks :-)

Re: alnico 5 humbuckers

What kind of rock? It's a big category. You already own some excellent Duncan PU's. Are you wanting vintage output (like what you have) or high output?

A5's are bright magnets that give a lot of high end and bass, with scooped mids. The PU wind may accentuate that, or reduce it (WLH's are a warm A5 PU; '59's are a bright A5 PU).

JB's aren't warm PU's. Some members use 250K pots or warmer magnets in them to take off some high end.

The good thing is that research is free! Before you start replacing pickups, check out our website, soundclips, Youtube channel, and the forum here. The JB and 59 are a great pair, but there might be something that catches your ear better.

Re: alnico 5 humbuckers

thank you for the asnwers !

here are some answers about what you asked me :

Shooter.556 - the main reason i am asking about other ideas is because , although i love SD , i dont to be only a SD user.

blueman335 - i am playing mainstream - it can be - jackson 5 - blame it on the boogie or bon jovi you give love bad name.
i am using tube amps - vox ac30, laney vc30 and vox lil night train and tube multieffect vox tonelab
do you recommend something else ?

Mincer - i've researched before so this why i've asked you.
i never used basswood before so i am not sure - some people told me alnico 5 will be better than 2 on this guitar.

van noord - i don't like dimarzio for some reason... i used before - the one that i think is great is the Dimarzio transition.

i thought about Bareknuckle Mule - but unfortunately all the sound samples on their site sound the same to me.
so i am thinking about kent armstrong or arcane/bogner or SD .

Re: alnico 5 humbuckers

For a great all around set for rock, I dig the Whole Lotta Humbuckers, even in basswood/maple. They aren't as 'specialized' as some metal pickups or some single coils, but they sound great for many eras of rock.

Re: alnico 5 humbuckers

You've already got a Slash set and a Seth set. The Whole Lotta is not going to be much different than what you have. Why not try something different, for variety, but still able to do what you want?!

You might want to try an Alt 8 bridge with a Demon neck for some great rock tones. Very versatile pups that will do all you want, but with a slightly different flavor than what you already have.

Hi...i agree with that your saying - although i love my SD sounds i dont want every guitar to sound the same...
I am thinking about Kent Armstrong Hot rod Vintage - heard nice things about them
