Stock (A5) full shred vs Ceramic full shred?
Has anybody used a ceramic full shred? What are the differences between the two in terms of tone. I'm pretty much sold on the full shred but i want to know how it would sound with a ceramic magnet, I'm assuming that the difference would be similar to that of a custom and custom 5 (i.e more mids and slightly more low)
Has anybody tried this? What did it sound like in relation to the stock full shred- is it worth doing?

the ceramic full shred ca be compared to the SH5 custom but with a different attack, presence and output:)

Re: Alnico 5 vs ceramic full shred?

I wouldn't do it with a normal sized ceramic unless you're tuning to A or something like that, the "bright/thin/harsh" qualities would all be accentuated by the hex screws. It would be extremely tight for teh djentz.

An oversized ceramic is probably tits, I've been wanting to try it. An experienced guess would be that it's thunderous but tight with huge chugging capability. Unfortunately I have not been able to do it yet.

What would it sound like under wound, with a UOA5?

Re: Alnico 5 vs ceramic full shred?

I've tried the regular ceramic in one. In a bright guitar is was shrill even for me, and I loves me some top end. In my dark guitar it was great. No amount of gain could get it muddy, but the cleans were not very pretty. I always felt the stock full shred had a bit of the nasal thing going on and the ceramic cured that. The ceramic full shred becomes a bit limited in what it does well, its really just a metal pickup.

I also think that a fat ceramic would be even better, beefier.

what about with an Alnico 8 in the Full Shred?

particularly in a mahogany body with an ebony board, tuned to standard?

Re: Alnico 5 vs ceramic full shred?

Update:

I made a full shred/custom hybrid by swapping the south coil hex screws with fillisters and using a ceramic magnet.

It's a very happy medium between the 2. Still edgy and raw like a custom with just a tad more pick attack and tightness.

I wish Seymour would make a production pickup like that, sounds like something I would buy
