Alnico 8 in Pearly Gates Bridge?

I've had the same issue with the PG. Tried several different mags and only found that they brightened the sound even more. A2 is as dark as you can go with mags. I've never tried the dbl thick A2 as Clint suggested, but I suspect it might help a little bit...probably not enough for my taste though. The PG bridge makes a good neck pup, but I've never liked the overly bright tone in the bridge position.

If you love the pup enough to want to keep it, I can only see two things that might help:

1) A 250k vol pot that actually measures around 225k;
2) Turn the tone pot down (maybe even with a .047uf cap).

Is this something that twist of the tone knob couldn’t fix? If it’s too bright regardless of which setup you’re using, I see no point in trying fix it with a magnet. Just stop using the pickup and use something else you know that works for you.

Also did you do a song called Beats Ballet? I stumbled upon it on Pandora and recognized the name from here.

I find that running the tone control back to about 7 on my Big Apple and Lone Star Strats, with PG+ pickups, works very well...

What I noticed (having a nickel covered PG) is that the screws need to be flush with the cover or lower. If they stick out the sound is nails on blackboard harsh.
