Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

slash is distorted, but not super saturated in most cases

as far as "mature players" i definately have to agree. There's definately a line between the guys who crank their amps & pick harder or softer to change how much drive they get & rocking the power amp distortion, and some wanker with a pointy strat running 4 ds-1's into a peavey xxx

my schec was actually supposed to get a2's. That was the point of it, i wanted a guitar with a2's, but then p rails got announced and yeah... can't pass em up

i still plan on getting another guitar for a2pro's though

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

I like the APH-1b, but, to me, there's no reason to go to it when there's the SHPG-1 available. :burnout:

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

Keri Kelly (Alice Cooper) uses them too. Dunno whether it was the case when i heard him but in any case best accord I ever heard.

Anyway, I have a APH2 bridge which I used both in neck and bridge of my Asian LP. It didn't leave a permanent mark (compared to my Antiquities all that SH-* and APH-* stuff sounds the same now, kinda), but it did sound absolutely awesome in the neck combined with a JB in the bridge series out of phase (second combo I tried).

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

Love my AII Pro Bridge. Get the drive from the amp or boost pedal, not the pickup.

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

It has been said... you don't need distortion style pickups for brutal metal tones anymore... Mark Morton's Jackson has a pair of 59s in it!!! That being said, I love my Bill Lawrence L500XLs.... but next in line is a pearly gates, 59, or a dimarzio vhv... I usually don't like high output buckers! I want to try those P-rails next... those are a great great great idea!

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

I'd love a guitar with a set of APH's, as well as one with a CC/APH. Too many pickup combos, too few guitars. ;)

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

My beef with A2's is in the neck which, at least in some guitars, are dark, lifeless, & loose.

That's been my experience with them as well.

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

i just got a pair of '59's for my Epi LP... haven't installed yet... although now i'm debating if i shouldn't get APII's.... might be more in line with the Burstbuckers (1&2 - A2 magnets) that are in the Gibson Historic Les Paul Reissues...

thoughts on APII's vs '59s for that vintage Les Paul PAF vibe from 58-59-60 Les Pauls.... ???

I may still stick with the '59s... but the APII's are in the back of my mind... from the SD soundclips... they aren't terribly different... subtle difference...

what i'm a bit confused on is that why are the '59's the "PAF" type pickups (using A5's), when Gibson's "PAF" pickups, ie. Burstbucker 1, 2, 3 use A2's... ????? :scratchch i guess the Seth Lovers are more in line with true A2 PAF sound than the APII...

cheers

A AP2 is currently being installed on the neck of my MIM Tele...I'm hoping it sounds good. I'm a little nervous now about the 'dark and lifelessness' in some guitars.

So does the fact that AP2s are my favorite pickup mean I am really mature? :scratchch

Re: Alnico II humbuckers? Anyone?

I have an Alnico II pro in the neck of my Brian Moore I1 2000 series. It came factory equppied with a JB bridge and Alnico II Pro APS-2 single coil middle, a slightly unusual configuration, as some would expect the 59 or Jazz neck. I play shred guitar, and like to use to Alnico II Pro APH for a warm clean sound, as well as a thick lead sound. Although I'm actually no vintage purist (my plan is to eventually use Blackouts one day as my main pickups within the next few months/years), those after a good clean neck sound can do worse than use the APH.
