Hey I was wondering if anyone has tried the Alnico II Pro Neck and 59 Bridge combo in a Les Paul? If so I'd like to hear what you guys think of the sound
Re: alnico II pro and 59 combo, anyone tried this?
Tough call.
I like the APH-1 in the neck more than the bridge, but I'd say the same for the 59 (despite it's neck boominess). The aph-1 in the bridge has a bottom that seems a little too deep for my taste. The 59 in the bridge takes on a slight nasal quality I'm not crazy about, but taste may vary according to musical style.

I'm trying to get the tones of both Page and Slash. I know that Slash uses the APH-1 and JP tones is somewhat close to '59, where would they go best? From the sound clips that I've heard I like the '59 in the neck and the Alnico 2 Pro in the bridge. Thanks.

Hey Zepp rules,
I have a jazz in the neck and a A2P in the bridge. I can get some very Zep-esque tones as well as GNR. The A2P is warm warm but turn up the tone and it can really cut. If you have listened to the second disc of the BBC sessions I can get a pretty close to to that. I like the jazz in the neck because due to the muddiness of the neck position the jazz works nicely. A 59 sounds nice as well but has too much bass for me. I've preached A2P in the bridge more than enough to irritate you al so I'll shut up!

You might try a Seth Lover in the bridge . . . by far the best sounding bridge pickup that I've ever played, and it gets some good tones for both zepplin and guns n' roses stuff . . . I don't know how well it would mesh with the APH-1 in the neck, but they're both alnico II magnets . . .
