Alnico II Pro bridge model in the neck?

Hello,
I would like to know if someone tried to put a APH-1B in the neck with a higher output pickup in the bridge like a JB or a Bare Knuckle Nailbomb, in my case.

Would it sounds objectively bad or should I try it?

Depends what you want from a neck PU. I like A2PN's because they have more treble than PGN's. If you want a warm neck PU, then an A2PB would work.

Depends on the guitar. In a strat, its great. Gives you a Les Paul jinda tone. But in a Les Paul, it might be too think so I'd swap it with an Alnico 5. Or hybridize it with a 59.

It sounds fine, gives a bit more output. I currently use this in my Hamer.

I will install this in a Prs S2 Custom 24. I was going to buy a 59 neck at first but I found this used Alnico 2 pro bridge so I might as well try it.

No problem with an A2P bridge in the neck at all. IMO, the neck / bridge winds don't sound that different to me (if different at all). Output is only slightly different. Not enough to make a difference in most cases.

Now - A JB in the neck….different story. JB is hot mofo. IF what you want is a particular and scorching neck tone for leads, it is bad@$$. That said - balancing it with the bridge and getting a decent rhythm could be an issue.

And there is no "objective" here. If you like it, and it works for you, you win.

Re: Alnico II Pro bridge model in the neck?

I have an APH-1B in the middle slot of a Strat — the upper range sounds beautiful and thick to me.

However the lower range (admittedly I'm not in standard) can be a bit dark. I personally like it, but for many it's not ideal (esp. *not* good for gain).

Anyways I mention this because, in the neck, the tone would lean towards being darker than what I described.

Another guitar (with the same tuning) with an APH-1N (in the neck) sounds very balanced.

Hope that helps.

I've got JazzB in the neck (same pup you've got,but with an A5 in it). I think I like it better than a JazzN. Definitely try out what you got.

Should be fine in 24 fretter. I won't recommend it for short scale 22 fretter. Got one in a semihollow and it sounded muffled.

Jazz's are much brighter PU's to begin with. In fact, A2P's are a Jazz with an A2, so part of the treble is removed right off the bat.

Try it! Of all of the 'bridge pickups in the neck' ideas, this is a pretty safe one. It should sound great.
