Stefos 666 - The CC is a great pickup with a farily high output, but in my opinion perhaps not best for pantera - and neither is the Alnico 2 pro for that matter. They both have fairly loose bottom ends and you dont get quite the same definition under high gain that you do with A5/ ceramic pickups. Having said that it is perfectly good for heavy rock, if that is what you play most of the time.

Many do find the APH2 to be a bit weaker (and they are)... while you may compensate by increasing the amp's gain, you still may find the APH2 too weak when compared to the BSDM (BC Rich pickup) in your axe now. The CC really may be a wiser choice here if you are looking to play some higher gain music.

I have no experience with the CC, but I can tell you that the bottom end of the CC (sh-11) can't be any sloppier on the bottom than the BSDM, which I find to be very muddy and harsh at the same time. The CC looks to be a good choice to tame the top end of the tonal spectrum.

I've just put one in my strat bridge- its VERY VERY low output. Definitly not for a BC Rich IMO

Was that necessary?

There is not any pup that is or is not for a guitar, it's all based on preference. If you like the Slash tone this is a way to get close. Also like I said pup height is critical.

Well, i thought it was lol. As BC rich's are predominantly metal guitars I believe he will be disapointed with the alnico 2, its a significantly different pickup, and IMHO will just about do for rock, i think it is far too weak if you want to move into a more heavier metal. But like you say Luke, there is not any pup that is or is not for a guitar, it's all based on preference, and that is to be respected for sure. Its just i wasnt too keen on mine, it almost sounds like the old stock to my ears.

I have an old interview where he says he uses A2P's and old PAFs in all his guitars.

Sure this is somewhat subjective -- a lot depends on not only taste, type/nature of guitar, etc. But even more depends on your playing technique. Somebody unusually heavy-handed with heavy strings could probably make an Alnico 2 Pro work for metal.

But as a rule, it's not a metal pickup. Even the bridge model is under 8k (and could work as a neck pu).

All Slash's guitars have Alnico 2 pro in.Except the old les pauls that have pafs.Slash uses in his mockingbird Alnico 2 pro.I find the sound very raw especially in the song You Could Be Mine (when played live)And the feedback is good too.Anywayz i want to ask u something else....What will be the difference of my Bc Rich Pickups and the Alnico II pro?Havent tried any other pickups in this guitar but i think they are pretty lame lol.

Similar, but a little warmer and definitely smoother on the top end. I have played '59s before and liked them, but when I tried them in the '91 Classic they seemed a little too harsh and bright. Probably because I had become accustomed to playing Seths. Sorry to confuse the issue by introducing a third model into the comparison, but I tend to think of the AII Pros as somewhere between a '59 and a Seth.

I've yet to try the '59b, but am still loving the Seths. I had an A2P neck years ago, but wasn't crazy about it. That was before Antiquities came out.

In the economic world, an item or commodity is only really worth what somebody is willing to pay.
I believe that duncan has very reasonably priced pickups.
George Bush, on the other hand, has UNreasonably priced gasoline BUT people are willing to pay so I guess, to them,
It is worth it.
Back on track: The APH neck is for long smooth santana like soloing for days under high gain, and jazz runs clean. Some claim that the pickup is one of the best for chicago blues and I tend to agree. I dunno about the bridge tho.
Sound just like a BB king commercial :newangel:

I just got a set of aph's put in my paul yesterday and they rock! I had the '59n with a C-5 bridge and could not get it to sound quite right to my ears. Dropped in the Pros and love them. Could not be happier. I did lose some output but it was worth the trade for the sweetness of these bad boys. Plus I love the way they respond with my amps distortion cranked. IMO go for it and if you don't like them you can always send them back for something different.

The alnico 2pro is a great pickup in the neck but i cannot say anything for the bridge. Definetly worth the money.

i put em in my les paul the other day and have had problems since to be honest. Luke Duke will agree since he helped loads on anothe rthread i posted, but the guy in the guitar store gave me one piece of valuable advice. He said even if I had exactly all of Slah's gear to use exactly to Slash's spec, it still wouldn't sound like Slash, because of touch/phrasing that he has. So the pups might help to get nearer, but you should focus more on technique mainly. Even though I've had problems, I've been told that the pups work even better when the amps louder so you get a better sound.

Not to hijack a thread - well maybe a little.

I have a set of A2P's that I pulled out of a guitar I sold (Chris at SD recommended them to darken the tone of my ash Ibanez Artist and they did the trick). I was thinking of using them to replace the IBZ H1/H2's in my AR250 Artist. I'm looking for a good smooth, sustained, LP-like tone with the capability of doing some nice clean fat jazz stuff as well.

Anyone with Ibanez experience tell me, would the A2P's be a step up from the stock Ibanez H1/H2 humbuckers?
