So here's the problem...
it seems like I dig the '59s distorted sound a bit more than that of an Alnico II Pro, but how are the cleans o f it compared to those of the APH-1?
thanks

I personally like the Alnico II pro in the neck for distortion if you need a thumbing low end without being muddy. I can't say much about it for cleans. In fact in general I think it only works well for taking the edge off of a overly bright amp(such as my DSL50) Other than that I can't say I really see the appeal. The mids are really lacking, but it did a perfect job on one song that I played with my band. Other than that I used the JB in the bridge for everything else, even though I am not completely satisfied with it. I play a Les Paul Custom if that helps you.

I love the APH in the neck of my '81 Hamer Special. Good low end, lots of sparkle to the highs when clean, and quite a bit of push when driven. Works really well for creamy leads and for clean blues licks.

Ok I might add that it's going to be in a Strat @ the bridge position...

And welcome luckypablo

In a strat at the bridge position, I thin kthe 59 would be a better bet. More highs and lows would blend better with the singles in the neck and mid.

I have a custom TELE and I have a Jazz in the neck an a '59 in the bridge. The clean tones on both of these PUPS are excellent. The OD tones are also very good. The Alnico IMO is a warmer PUP. I like this PUP in a Archtop, but they also sound exceptional in LP as well as a 335. IMO the Alnico is the cosest thing to a PAF that Duncan makes. I'm sure there will be people who will say that the Antiquity, or the Seths are closer, but I feel the Alnico's have the warmth that these others lack. IF yoy need a Higher output PUP the Antiquity or a Seth, or even a PG may be better. But I really like the Alnico and the 59. In a 2 HB guitar Alnico in the neck and 59 in the bridge would be a nice combination.
