Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Hey guys. What would an A5 do to an Alnico II Pro Neck pup? Would it yield more cut in the mids and highs? A little more output? How far off from the 59n would it be? I'm looking for something a little different to pair up with the Nazgul in my Charvel.

A2P with an A5 is a Jazz.

Wow, same wind. I didn't know that, thanks! I was thinking of the Jazz or the Sentient.

How do you feel about Jazz vs Sentient working in Basswood? I'm totally set on the Nazgul for the bridge.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

It just makes it a Jazz like Blueman said. Great pickup though! The Jazz is my favorite neck humbucker. Very clear and articulate without losing the warmth you'd expect from a humbucker

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Cool, thanks. It's definitely one I've been thinking about. We'll see.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

I had no idea there were the same wind!
So I could drop my UOA5 magnet in my A2 Pro neck and I'd have something really interesting...

Yeah! This made me think of possibly magnet swapping my Gibson 57 Classic with some kind of A5 and throw it in the Charvel with the Nazgul.

What's the difference between a UOA5 and a regular A5?

Please post some sounds clips if you do.

A2 and UOA5 are not incredibly different sounding. UOA5 would be a slight bit louder with a touch more highs but thats about it. It would be a pretty minor shift tonally.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Yup. And it adds a bit more output I'd say.

UOA5 in the A2 Pro, A8 in the Demon. The EQ will be brought closer between them, since they're worlds apart now.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

A little more treble, a little less mids. If an A2 PU's too warm and rounded, & you want to keep the same basic feel, try an UOA5.

Cool, thanks. I've been looking at the new website and checking sound clips. My favorite neck pup at the moment based on those clips is the 59n.

Ah, but you really can't tell much by sound clips, as you're probably not using the same guitar, wood, amp, tubes, speakers, effects, etc as they did on the clips. Any given PU will very different in an LP vs a Strat. A '59N will even sound different in a LP vs an SG.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Hi guys! I just recently ordered a UOA5 from mojotone to swap out the A2 bridge in my A2pro - looking to add some lows/highs a bit of output... when i take the old magnet out, what's the best/easiest way to make sure i put the new magnet in right?

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Pull the old mag out half way. Orient the new mag so it attracts with the long thin edge of the old mag and swap it in that way.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Awesome thank you guys... do you think the UOA5 will give me a sharper attack and more lows/output? The low e and a strings on the A2P are just a little too flubby for me... lowering the base side and raising the pole pieces have helped, but I still want a little more cut.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

UOA5 has more treble but still soft lows, although not as soft as A2. And I think it does have more output. If you want a sharp attack with firm lows, I recommend A9.

Re: Alnico II Pro with an A5 Magnet - Neck

Awesome thanks again! I'll try the UOA5 first... if it's not to my liking will try the 9. It seems like the UOA5 might be just what I'm looking for, but we'll see.
