Alnico II Strat Pickups?

Re: Alnico II Strat Pickups?

The thing is, I don't really dig the whole relic thing - so does Duncan offer anything like the Surfers but without the relic job?

I only really use the volume knobs and keep the tone knobs wide open - if I roll them down most of the time I think it sounds muddy (not so much with the bridge pickup though).

I'm not necessarily trying to buy the GFS because they're cheap, it's just that I do like what I hear and the price is definitely a plus to them. But again, I've never tried them in person so I don't know for sure.

Well the surfers are A5, so truthfully I doubt you'd like them. I was just giving you a bit of info earlier, not specifically recommending the surfers. The Texas Hots are going to be warmer sounding with more girth and less chime/glass.

If I were you I'd be considering the APS1/APS1/APS2 setup I told you about earlier. Another option is one used by Curly here on the forum and that is the Alnico 2 Pro in the neck and middle and a Hot in the bridge. The overwind gives the bridge a good bit of girth and midrange so that the bridge slot sounds fatter while still using A5.

I would also recommend the Alnico II Pro single coils, no doubt about it!
I have these in a Lite Ash Stratocaster and think these are superb strat pickups!!

They are not Antiquity line or whatever, but standard Duncan range. ;-)

I think I'm going with Sheptone's "Good Enough For Leo" set. They sound exactly like what I want and they offer A2 magnets too.
