Alnico or Ceramic?

Which one do you prefer and why? For me i`d say Alnico because i like the tone and versatality you get better than a Ceramic!

I'd say Alnico as they cover more ground (style wise), but I like Ceramics too

Depends on the purpose...

I thought I didn't like Ceramics that much because the custom didn't really do it for me in my RG... Only to find later on that my main guitar I'd been using for 2 years had ceramic pups as stock and I loved them :laugh2:

The customs now in a different guitar where it seems more suited and I really like the tones I'm getting. I have a guitar with an A2 mag pup, and a guitar with an A5 mag pup. I use them depending on what sound I want

I have only tried alnico II and V pickups, but from the clips I have heard I don't like the ceramic mag ones. Just too tight and agressive from a start. And I always I have the impresion I can get the same tone with an alnicoV and a cranked amp.

Ceramics just seem to respond better to my playing than Alnicos. Not to say I don't like the Alnicos, it just seems that I get along better with the ceramics.

Any kind, as long as the sound is there. That being said, I have more alnico II loaded pickups than anything else. :burnout:

I have probably more alnico 5 loaded pickups than any other type of magnet-- vocal and warm, but edgy. I have come to find that the combination of an alnico and a ceramic pickup is very pleasing to my ear.

Same here. Although, I do like the EMG 85, and it's alnico 5. Although I know there's no way to swap it, I'd be curious to hear one with ceramic... I wonder if that's what the EMG 81 is...

I tend to prefer ceramics for HBs, though I've got an Alnico 5 HB in my Tele. For SCs, my tastes depend much more on what I'm trying to do. Though, to be sure, one thing i'm almost always trying to do is to avoid anything that makes me think the words "classic rock." *shudders*

I would say alnico too. I find the ceramics too aggressive. Ofcourse it depends what style u want, but alnico is deffintly more versityle.

Differs. I like both in different guitars. Definetely love the balls to wall aggression of the ceramics, but I love the musical vibe and smoothness of alnico mags.
