first of all, since im new to the forum, i should introduce myself...my names todd, i've been playing guitar for about 5 years, and my main influence is probably the fall of troy

i've heard that if you put an active pickup in one guitar, the tone is going to be pretty much the same if you put it into another guitar
is this true? or just another guitar myth
thanks

welcome to the forum. fall of troy is amazing, love them so much.

But, your question doesnt make sense.

Re: alright, i'm sort of new to pickups..

yeah i guess i should clarify haha
if you put an active pickup into a mahogany guitar, are you going to get the same sound if you put that same pickup into a basswood guitar? (while keeping all the amp settings of course)

Re: alright, i'm sort of new to pickups..

I don't know a doggone thing about active pickups, but I doubt they'd sound exactly the same. They might sound more alike than transferring a passive pickup (which changes a lot), but the sound must change. It just has to!

Re: alright, i'm sort of new to pickups..

Welcome to the forum bro! And I agree, the Fall of Troy is awesome. As for your question, I've played with the same set of actives in multiple guitars and often times they sound completely different, so yes it is a myth.
