Alright, tell me what you think about this...

I posted a question on here recently about what humbucker I should put in my Warmoth Strat. I got a few responses and I did some more research and this is what my next guitar will be:

Black Alder Strat body with universal routing
Maple on Maple neck with 70's Fender headstock
Black Pearl pickguard H-S-S with 1 Volume and 1 Tone
Fender American Standard Tremolo and Schaller Locking Tuners
and finally...
JB Model humbucker and SSL-6 single coils

I plan on using 250K pots for volume and tone to make the JB and the
SSL-6's warmer. As for switching, position 1=Bridge, 2=split Bridge, 3=Middle, 4=Neck and Middle, 5=Neck.

I've had everything but the body and a humbucker for a while, and now the time has come to finish what I started. The idea is for it to look a bit vintage (hence the maple on maple and big headstock) and to pull off the vintage sound if necessary (single coils). But also to have modern appointments (locking tuners and black pearl pickguard) and be capable of really rocking out (humbucker-the JB). I'm really excited and I think it's going to turn out great.

So any more suggestions or things to consider changing? Tell me what you guys think and I would also like to hear about other people's custom guitars.

That should probably sound pretty good. I'm using an SSL-6 in the middle of my Strat-clone too. It has a nice beefy tone. A bit more than a single-coil, not quite a full 'bucker.

If I could make one suggestion though, if you make a slight change on your #2 position, to this:

bridge-split & middle

You could do that with a standard 5-way. To do it the way you want will require a Mega-switch or Superswitch. I think the bridge-split + middle might sound nicer too.

Yeah, I really enjoy the ssl-6's. I picked those out because they claimed to be much like a normal single coil, with added output and a little "beef", and damn it if they weren't right on the money! But, I need something thats just good straight-up rock for the bridge, and I think the JB will do that, and mesh well with the ssl-6's. I'll try that split-bridge+middle configuration for position #2 as soon as the humbucker gets here. Thanks for the tip! Later Dudes...

DO NOT put a 250k pot for your volume. You seem to have it backwards, the more resistance you have in your pot, the darker (or less bright) the sound is going to be from you pickups. 250k for volume would make the JB way too bright sounding, go with "at least" a 500k pot for your volume.
