Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

+ 1 on picking up the phone. I got a Custom 5 a while back that was not properly potted and squeeled like a PIG at high gain. Made the call got a RA # and a new pickup with no hassle:cool2::thanks:.

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Ok, im getting pissed here. I tried calling but sat as the 2nd caller on que for a long fricken time and couldnt get thru. Ive sent 2 emails and got nothing in response.

Frankly i think this is going to be the last Seymour Duncan pickup i'll ever use and im gonna tell everyone who asks to steer clear.

Its been 12 days since i sent my first email, this is much to long for an email to sit. I dont like having to sit on the phone calling long distance for 15+ minutes to rectify a stupid mistake made by said company. You let a malfuntioning pickup thru, give me a **** replacement.

Congrats SD youve lost my business:cussing:

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Listen. Your experience is the exact opposite of everyone I've ever spoken to, unless we're talking about people being out sick, or other rare extraneous circumstances like everyone's out at NAMM or something. This week we are preparing for NAMM, but I don't think that's a valid reason you haven't been contacted, so I'm not making excuses. We've had long training meetings and other things that are taking Sales and Customer Service away from their desks for large parts of the day, but still...

We'll get it sorted tomorrow.

To bad you´ve waited that long :(
Still, ask yourself if you like the sound of the pickup.
If you really like the sound and wan´t a working Alt 8 just keep on trying to contact SD customer service.

Good Luck

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Ok, so i finally got an email back after 12 days, 3 emails, 2 phone calls and screaming at them on their own forum. Im very dissapointed in this company, one of the reasons ive bought from SD is because of their return policy and reputation. The reputation of great customer survice seems to be false, 12 days is by far way too long to wait.

Thanks Frankfalbo.

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Sad to hear about that experience. But I'm more worried about SD letting a faulty pickup leave the factory than this probably very unusual lack of customer support.

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Seymour Duncan pickups are of the highest quality, especially when compared to DiMarzio. I've always found Duncan products to have great quality check and never had a problem with any of their pickups. I'm really saddened to know there might be a few faulty pickups that leak out of the factory. Don't lend me intentions I don't have. I love my Duncans and the quality on them is awesome.

Why does this not surprise me?

a faulty Duncan pup is a rarity, that's for sure. happens with any product though.

Antihero, I'd be upset if the same thing happened to me, don't get me wrong, but don't let that keep you away from SD products. I've dealt with lots of companies in the musical instrument business and although a 2 week wait is rough, there are many companies where that is the norm. and sometimes the staff is rude on top of that (ESP, Fulltone . . . especially Fulltone :laugh2:)

I realize it happens to every company, but it depends on how the company deals with it.

How come when i email DiMarzio i get an email back within the day? When i got a bad speaker from WGS, they emailed me back in 20 minutes and had a new speaker sent out by the end of the day.GFS gets back to me within 2 hours, how come it takes 12 days for SD to get back to me? They didnt even say "oops we're sorry that this took so long, how can we make it right?"

Not only that but the email they responded to was the 2nd one i sent, not the first.

So how do you expect me to deal with this?, oh guess my business only matters when i hand them money, but hey why dont i take another chance with my money that this time they give me a working pickup.

Ive owned 3 dimarzios. None failed to work
Ive owned 4 GFS. None failed to work
Ive owned an Artec, it also worked.
I ve owned 3 EMGs. They all worked
Ive owned a Gibson Iommi. It worked as well
The stock pickups from Squire, Arbor, Epiphone, OLP, Agile, Harmony all worked even when the stock pickup was made like crap.

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Ok , we get your point. You're unhappy. Now stop whining about around here and running their quality into the ground. Obviously you havent had many Duncans if any or wouldnt feel this strongly.
Do you need a hug or what?

Ive owned several, at last count 7 actually. Im not whining, im responding.

I just think that a company that doesnt value your business after you buy is a company i want no part of. How come when i send them an email asking which pickup i should buy i get a response in a couple of hours, but when i email about needing a replacement for a faulty pickup it takes 12 days?

Im not smearing SD(or as you said "running their quality into the ground") with unfounded opinions, this is an actual bad experience and even FrankFalbo, who i believe works for SD, believes my problems are valid. Im sorry to ruin your day with this reality.

Anyway in the end they have gotten back to me and i will be getting a replacement that hopefully will work this time. Im glad FrankFalbo helped me with my problem, kudos there. Hopefully SD will learn from this, or at least attemp to rectify their customer service problems.

You're not ruining my day because I know the reality is their quality is as good as it gets. You may have gotten a bad one and that sucks, but it happens and thats the reality.
I'm glad they are taking care of you and I agree the wait was a little much but I found the public bashing rather low class.

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

12 days is a long time, but I wonder how many of those days the company was even open. Most of those days would fall over the holidays or weekends. Yeah, it's too long, but it hardly seems like the earth-stopping event that it's being made into.

It's unfortunate that you think this single incident is indicative of the value Seymour Duncan has for its customers and of the quality of the customer service. Reputation of quality customer service is earned. Their appreciation for their customers is put on display fairly regularly. The user group day and the forum pickup are but two examples.

Re: Alt 8 help, possible bad pickup

Antihero, i want to tell you my experience: I bought a humbucker used with a broken off leg. I sent one email to the support: 10 days later i recieved two baseplates because i made not clear in my email whether i needed long legged or short legged. This is surely a good service.

Yes it is, and i wish i'd had the same.
