Alternative coil split wiring?

Dear forum colleagues, I have a question about coil split wiring scheme.

To split a SD humbucker leaving only the south coil working (adjustable screws), it is needed to allow the signal to enter through the south coil start (green wire) and to combine all other wires to the ground (black, white and red - Fig. 2 below).

My question is: What would happen if instead of grounding the north coil, I just live it unconnected, out of the circuit (black wire open)? Please see Fig. 3 below.

Would you have any similar experience? What would happen? Having the north coil unconnected but physically close to the working south coil would have any impact or the traditional coil splitting (Fig. 2) and the alternative (Fig. 3) would have the same results?

Just for clarification, according to my wiring and guitar characteristics I just cannot wire according to Fig. 2, so I am looking for an alternative manner to do it.

Thank you in advance for your attention!

Re: Alternative coil split wiring?

Yes, whether you ground it or leave it unconnected it is still out of the circuit and will work.

Re: Alternative coil split wiring?

Thank you for your reply! Just for my information, have you done that before this way?

I am asking that because I am a little afraid that despite of working, this alternative wiring could generate some kind of noise, interference or any other bad thing to the signal.

Thank you for your attention!
