Have a matching set in my Paul, I would like something a with a little more output and thickness. But still mix well an compliment the neck.
What would you recommend.
Thanks

What about Pearly Gates? A2, Thick & juicy & sounds fantastic in Les Pauls.

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

yeah figure it would be one of those two. I've heard mixed reviews about the custom custom in a Les Paul. But both are tempting!

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

I can't find the CC sounds anything like an APH.

Duncan Custom if you want to be a little noisy. The JB with A2 is hotter but has more highs than CC, I like it, but it's more than a little hotter than the APH.

I had a APII set in my LP Classic, it was a covered set and the bridge started gettting a little microphonic so I replaced it with a CC I had laying around. They sound really nice together, although I had to raise the neck up closer to match the CC. I would have kept the APII set had it not gotten noisy, but the CC is staying for now. If I ever get around to fixing the APII it'll probably go back in.

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

I think I'm gonna try the pearly gates? What are the main differances between it and my alncio II pro bridge?

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

It's gonna have a brighter, more aggressive voice that sounds sing-y and smooth with the tone rolled down. I don't know what a A2pro neck pickup sounds like, so I can't say how they'll interact, but the PGb is a great bridge pickup.

Nothing in common. The APH is a smooth pickup with clean sound that can drive high-gain rigs and generally doesn't have anything out of the line sound wise. The PG has much more of it's own sound and distortions. In addition to the "Texas top sizzle" I also think it has an annoying low-mids push in the wrong spot.

That's in the neck in Gibson style guitars. I still play to try a bridge version in a Fender style axe.

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

I have a APHII neck bucker paired with a 59b in one of my guitars and it is hands down the best non-identical bucker combo ive tried to this day.

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

I tried an A2P in the neck and a Custom Custom bridge and it sounded nice, but i put the A2P back in bc i like a moderate output pickup.

Re: Alternative to Alnico II Pro Bridge??

Ha! Maybe it would have been easier for the OP to ask what wouldn't be an alternative to the AP2 Bridge!
