Am i going back to metal?!?

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

I'll throw St. Vitus on that list too, but I'm not sure if you'd like them...I love it.

If you're digging Sabbath, check out some old Cathedral, Candlemass and Trouble.

Anthem: You didn't read the earlier post.....Good taste bro...ST VITUS

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

Just listen to songs and musical styles you like. Don't define and condemn yourself into always listening to one musical style.

i realize this, the only thing im worried about now... is i am gonna need two guitars, one for drop tuning(sabbath, master of reality and then on) and one for standard, i am seriously gassing for an SG too...

Hmm....Early Cathedral and Candlemass....are considered DOOM.

Really foreboding slow stuff ala the song black sabbath.

Im waiting for ex250 to fill you in on COC they are awesome Sabbath influenced metal.

What do you say 250?..........

ah hell yeah, COC (corrosion of conformity) kicks copious amount of ass. their album "deliverance" is usually considered best, and probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite album ever. also, check out "in the arms of god" just released last tuesday. i actually havent had the chance to pick it up cause im completely broke after i bought the ovation, but ive heard its awesome. and unlike some heavily sabbath-influenced bands, theres actual singing! and its really good at that. some of the doom bands get a bit too growly IMO. seriously, if youre gonna listen to any band, make it this one. them and down. i cant say enough about down either. definately phil anselmo's best work. "NOLA" is pretty straight up sabbath-influenced southern tinged metal, and "II" has a lot more diversity, theres a lot more bluesy and even country/bluegrass elements to some of the songs, in addition to some straightforward heavy tunes, and even some jazzy stuff going on with one song. id say NOLA is one of the best metal albums ever, but II pretty much transcends all genres in its greatness

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

If your gonna mention Wino's bands with St Vitus and The Obsessed, don't forget The Hidden Hand. If your after Sabbath inspired stuff,

Kyuss
Hidden Hand
Obsessed
COC
Mastodon
Hermano
Monster Magnet
Fu Manchu

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

I love Scott Weinrich, but alot of people don't like his singing...to me he is pentacle of doom right after Ozzy. I love Lee Dorian's voice too, but he's more gruff.

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

Oh, and harrison david, you like the mule right? ever hear there live cover of war pigs?

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

hey ex-250 i was looking at the COC site, they look pretty amazing, but i cant seem to find any clips, you know anywhere i can find some?

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

they did have a sampler thing that you can open on their main page with samples of 3 songs from the new album, but it isnt there anymore. if you have AIM, i have 2 songs from the album on my computer i can send, but i think theyre earlier versions so not all the mastering is done or something. still sounds great though

It's trendy to hate trends. :D
Just kidding.

With regards to Sabbath-esque bands you may like, The Obsessed is a band you may find appealling, same with Fireball Ministry. Fireball in particular has a real trucker-cool, stoner-rock feel to their songs that I personally like a lot.

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

There's a lot of great Prog and Power Metal bands out these days.
Check out:
Iced Earth
Blind Guardian
Demons and Wizards (Iced/Blind collaberation)
Magnitude 9
Symphony X
Vanden Plas
Hammerfall
Suncaged
Edguy
Avantasia (Tobias Sammet of Edguys side project)
Dream Evil

Just do a search on power metal.
Many new bands out there.

i know mostly all those bands, power metal is ok... out of that list i really only like Iced Earth(kick ass) and Blind Gaurdian.

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

If you like Sabbath pick up anything by C.O.C. , Blind or after that. Then work your way to Iron Maiden, Metallica, and Megadeth.

sorry but i got a laugh outta this, solely because i am also a maiden fan, and personally i would take megadeth over metallica ANY day...

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

I nice CD to get if you want to listen to "doom" genre type stuff or early thrash was the project Dave Grohl started called Probot. Tons of artists like Wino and Lemmy are on it and it will give you a good idea of what else to buy.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it seems metal these days is becoming more and more of a trend. You have extremes like the lipgloss bubble gum pop music out there and then you have bands that focus on nothing, but trying to be heavier than each other. Probot is a great album to get into bands that "started" the whole thrash, doom type stuff.

Re: Am i going back to metal?!?

This thread gave me a headache.

Just play some DAMN 70-80's metal and GTF Over it!

While your at it, buy a Van Halen album! ;)

Btw, old MetallicA OWNS YOU!
