im going to put alnico 2 pros in my les paul classic and custom shop 69's in my standard strat with maple neck, i play a marshall tsl 100. am i making the right choice?
led zeppelin, hendrix, guns n roses, the who, van halen, velvet revolver, stevie ray vaughan, u2, cream, pink floyd. ill play other stuff occasionaly, but thats what i usually play, im also might go for my own tone with the two guitars that will be like a combo of all the sounds listed above. thanx
For Classic rock the Alnico 2 Pro is an excellent choice. I just installed one in the neck of my Ibanez AX320 (an SG copy) and I love it. I like it so much I'm now rethinking my decission to put a Custom Custom in the bridge. But any of the Vintage humbuckers (59, pearly gates, seth lover) would be a good choice as well.
For the Strat the 69's are a fine choice too. I've played a couple of strats with these and they have a good vintage tone. Another good choice would be the Dimarzio Virtual 2 set. I had the chance to play one of these and I was quite impressed with the tone and to top it off they are hum canceling. My final reccomendation would be my personal favorites, the Duncan Five-Two. I just don't think that there is a better single coil available for a vintage tone with good balance.
If you like Slash's tone, then I don't see how you could go wrong with your choice of the Alnico 2 Pros.
Wouldn't be my first choice for my only guitar, but if I had more than three humbucker guitars I'd use those in #5.
( I'd use Antiquities in #4...if I still had a #4! I sold almost all of my humbucker guitars over the past year...all nice Hamers. Just wasn't playing them. )
i think those are good sounding pups, as to whether they are the right ones for you there is only one way to find out. put em in and try em.
the aph is a fat warm bucker, the 69 is a vintage type strat tone
