Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

...it's a shame it all didn't pay off more with a better CD overall IMO :(

But it is interesting to hear him give a little detail on all those tracks...

Maybe when Frusciante starts using interesting guitars again his music will follow suit :D

good article.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

Give the cd another listen and it will blow your mind. Took some time for me to get into it.:)

Turn it Again is such a sick song.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

...sorry. I've given that album numerous chances. :D

It lacks in all the areas I usually go to for a chili peppers album, and isn't any good as anything else either... If the marketting magicians didn't have so much invested in it, it never would have made it to #1... I'm sorry it's apparently the most popular album of theirs ever... And it's prob. those marketters that made it the worst too anyway...

The guitar trickery is kind of cool, but no amount of it could have saved that album :)

This spouted by a guy who's second favorite album is By the Way :D

(the title track is one of my only favorites, and Snow would have been one of the worst tracks on any other Chili Peps album, which still means it's ok :D ) Animal Bar too. that song is ok.

Glad you enjoy it ;)

Oh well to each his own.

I love the cd a lot because of the guitar solos, for one, because they rock, and two, because they rock in an era where guitar solos are nowhere to be seen in MAINstream music.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

to me this is the best of any of Frusciantes work that im familar with. I like that he went about recording this album with the idea of 60's and 70's rock recordings.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

I'm always mildly suspicious of any band that's fronted by a permanently 'naked from the waist up' guy. Better to sweat in a suit, than to unleash the torso...

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

I (IMO) think it's probably John Frusciante's best work as far as the Chili Peppers go, in past CDs he's really stepped back and use the guitar vary sparingly, in this album he just let loose and it sounds great. His solo work is probably his best work all around though. Good Stuff! :headbang:

I have to agree with you at least partly . . . I suppose that if you can get past the terrible lyrics, RIDICULOUSLY LOUD COMPRESSION, and bad singing then it's not too bad an album . . . when I really listen to the guitar and bass (and even some of the drumming) parts they're pretty cool. It's just the rest of the album that kills it for me.

If you like that type of recording, and Frusciante's music, you should check out the The Will to Death, and Curtains recordings... I've read some articles on them, and they seem to be very true to the recording ways of that era...

I don't like By the Way, SA is on the whole weak, but with many good songs in between.. They should have stripped it to one album, and it would be very good. Wouldn't beat Blood Sugar or Cali, but.. That being said, Slow Cheetah is one of the best chili song I've heard!

Thanks for the article, btw.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

terrible lyrics

quite the tr00th.

But the sad thing is, this is also Keidis' most vocally accomplished album. His lyrics have never been great, but some on SA are embarassing.

I don't care about the solos if the songs built around them aren't any good.

I guess I'm not enough of a "guitar player" ;)

Flea on the other hand is barely given any room to play... This is his most boring album. I agree that Frusciantes solo work is AMAZING... check out the DC EP and Niandra LaDes among others.

The Chili Peppers lost their spirit. I can see this album satisfying mindless pop listeners and people who go "Oh my god, solos!" but no one else. The Chili Peppers used to be all about the song, they used to be raw... (I actually pulled out my SA and tried to enjoy it again due to this thread... no dice)

+1 on this statement, I have never really been to keen on Keidis' voice, if you've every seen the peppers in concert or picked up one of John's CDs HE has a VOICE. Great voice to Frucsiante he can do it all, high, low, mid. he does all the harmony parts of the peppers albums. Heres a clip of him performing "Maybe" originaly by The Chantels

Very good records, but Niandra is NOT easy listening. ;)

As for the lyrics, I don't really bother listening to the lyrics whatever artist it is (not entirely true, but almost). I guess the fact that english isn't my native language is why I listen to music with such an approach..

A BIG plus one for the praise of Frusciante's vocal work.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

I usually don't listen to lyrics much either... my singer just forced me to learn all our songs so I can sing backup :laugh2: I hadn't even paid attention to the lyrics.

But Keidis' are sometimes bad enough that they get my attention in a bad way :(

Even Keidis can excel vocally though... And he pulls off some decent voice tricks on SA anyway... he's just weak lyrically, and I don't think performing his best material.

No matter how much I try, I can't ignore lyrics like:

Hump de bump doop bodu
Bump de hump doop bop
Hump de bump doop bodu

Oh no!

Bump de hump doop bodu
Hump de bump doop bop
Bump de hump doop bodu

Bump bump

Even when I was a kid watching Sesame street lyrics like that would have bored me . . .

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

Chili peppers suck. I like mother's milk back in the day and grooved on Blood Sugar Sex Magik for some time but god only knows why. I remember trying to like them because liked them and we were quite a diverse group so I figured there had to be something about them. I gave up after a while. Never bought or listened to another of their albums. Flea is a clown, Keidis can't sing, Chad Smith looks like Will Ferrell. Frusciante is about the only one that has anything redeeming value in that band.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

they're still in my top favorite bands, but they should have broken up right after By the Way.

BSSM might always be my fave album of all time, Mother's Milk was ok. You've got to listen to their earlier stuff to see Flea really showcase his talent... Frusciante in the context of the Chili Peps just doesn't fit anymore, even if he's a good player. And Keidis does many things well, just not certain things, and not on Stadium Arcadium.

In terms of songwriting, the band has proved that they can be stellar.

Re: Amazing article about Stadium Arcadium's recording process

I like the RHCP a lot. It makes for great phase out background music. Its different enough to keep me entertained but also has a good beat. Stadium Arcadium was at least the best album to come out this year(last year). Some of the songs are pretty deep if you listen to them.
