Gotta admit, not at all what I expected. I read (acoustic) and thought it was just going to be guitar.
After that, it was very much, not what I would expect either (even if I expected singing)
It wasn't bad, I actually kinda dig it, just not what was expected. I did sit here and listen all the way through, so I did like it.
Kinda, dylanesque, if that makes sense. Not that you necessarily sound like him, just some of that vibe. Also a lot of the 90's alternative (not the grunge end of it but the other end) influence.
Overall, nice, once your brain wraps itself around what it is.
im sorry to hear about your sister man.
Hah! I definitely appreciate the honesty, and I thought about doing it softer and I did for the funeral, but it just came out this way in the recording. Figured it was meant to be. Theres just a lot of emotions involved with this song for me...and memories. A lot has changed over the last month and something and I tried to reflect on it all here.
Thanks for the listen, and the words

To expand: there is so much that I love about this.
You've completely owned that song in this recording, it sounds as if you wrote it. I suspect that a large part of that was a bunch of unrealised, uncategoriseable emotions finding their way out through this recording.
I wish I'd heard it without having first read your words in the opening post, to see what i would have thought about hearing it without knowing the background or emotional landscape. Either way, i know your sister-in-law would be moved; I think you captured something very special in your recording, something beyond what the ears take in.
I definitely agree that was how it was meant to be, very raw, honest

The labored, low voice on "I once was lost," which is answered with a clear voice declaring "but now am found" --- beautifully symbolic
The B chord you were dwelling on before the A, kind of suspends the song - presses pause on the forward motion of the chord progression and gives us the opportunity to examine what we're listening to
Everything about it, whether deliberate or not - was beautiful. Don't tell me if any of that was deliberate - I appreciate this song too much to break it down any further.
