American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

I have done some research on this and really have not found much. I am replacing the pickups in my American Deluxe HSH Strat. I have tried using the Seymour Duncan 5 way super switch diagram as guidance which was somewhat successful. The 5 way switch that this strat came with is different than what is in the diagram. I used things like where the old wire was for the new wire type of reasoning. Quite a bit of buzz and the middle pick seems to be stronger on the GBE strings that the EAD strings. Here are the pickups I am putting in the guitar:

Neck - JAZZ NECK (SH-2N)
Middle - VINTAGE RAILS NECK (SVR-1N)
Bridge - DUNCAN CUSTOM (SH-5)

Here is the wiring diagram of the original configuration:

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

The switch in question is Fender's '5-way Lever Discrete' switch, part number 0078776000.. I don't have time right now to see how this lines up with/translates to the Seymour Duncan Diagram you provided, but maybe someone can step in in the mean time..

Here is a link to the full Fender tech sheet for the American Deluxe HSH..

Re: American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

Hey Downrazor11 - I have plenty of time to wait. I am in no rush. I actually got the diagram I posted off that tech sheet. I may have just thought about what might be causing my issue though...
I put the Red and White wires from the Duncan humbucker pickups (Bridge and Neck) where the Fender blue and yellow wires from the humbuckers are. Then I followed directions for the middle pickup on the Duncan diagram to ground the white and bare to the Vol pot and I put the Green and Black where the blue wire from the middle Fender pickup would go.
The black wires from the Duncan humbuckers are wired the same as the green Fenders.
I think i screwed up on the middle pickup. Fender has the their black wire going to the pot then to the switch. As a matter of fact it was the same wire from from the pickup all the way to the jack. They just stripped some of the wire in the middle to solder on the pot then to the switch. Me?!?! I skipped that step and went straight to the switch. LOL. Thoughts?

Re: American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

Well...I think may have figured it out. I did have one wire in the wrong place and I went ahead and wired it to the middle pickup to the pot then. All seems well now. It sounds and acts like a HSH with coil splitting in position 2 & 4. I will update if anything seems out of place. Thanks!

Re: American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

Although..if anyone has actual real information on how I should do this...I will take it. I'm only going off my ears and trying to convert Duncan wire colors to the crazy Modern Twin Head Fender pickups and the Discrete Switch. So any help would still be welcome!

Re: American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

Here are the 4 poles of Fender's 5-way lever discrete switch, I tried my best to write legibly:

It is basically half of a super-switch glommed on to a standard oak grigsby 5-way. I still can't tell you how it translates to a reg super-switch though..

Hey Downrazor11,

Thanks for taking the time to do that! I'll see if I can use what you provided to help translate what I've already done. Hopefully things will make sense.

Re: American Deluxe HSH Pickup Replacement

OK...here is an update after a final successful installation. A big thanks to Dennis from Seymour Duncan's support team for getting me this info. Hopefully this will help anyone else that has been lost finding this setup. Please use the image at the beginning of this thread from the service manual as a reference for this post:
The Fender stock pickup wire color is mentioned first.

Fender Modern Twin Head Neck -> to -> JAZZ NECK (SH-2N) neck:
Yellow is hot, put black from the SH2N here.
Green is the split, put red/white here
Black is ground, put green/bare here

Fender Noiseless middle -> to ->VINTAGE RAILS NECK (SVR-1N):
blue is hot, put black from the Vintage Rail here
Green is basically red/white wired to each other, insulated and are not connected to anything else.
Black is green and bare from the Rail and will go to the back of the volume pot.

Fender Modern Twin Head Bridge -> to -> Bridge - DUNCAN CUSTOM (SH-5/TB-5):
Blue is hot, black from SH-5 goes here
Green is split, red/white goes here
Black is ground, green/bare from SH-5 here

A thank you Downrazor11 who helped on this also!
