American Performer Mustang

Re: American Performer Mustang

I disagree, not because I've ever played a Japanese Jag/Jazzmaster, but because, on principle, Japanese stuff is the best.

Looks good over all. Wish it didn't have the modern style truss rod. I'm not a fan of the way that long plug with the hole in it looks. I've always wished that they'd make the offsets as part of their MIA vintage reissue series. Maybe once the prices on old ones go up enough...

Re: American Performer Mustang

So someone on Offsetguitars.com posted a disassembly of the vibrato; btw, these are apparently for sale now:

In short looks like three main improvements to the vibrato, all good: 1 - There is a beefy pivot point akin to a Jaguar vibrato, rather than relying on sharpened points in the vibrato plate. 2 - Apparently a locking pin can convert the guitar to hardtail. 3 - Better attachment for the arm. Really pleased Fender recognized the issues that plague the Mustang Vibrato and corrected them while still maintaining the same functionality. The minute one comes up used or on sale I might have to grab it.
