Feel like the Jazzmaster could be my big ticket purchase next year:

Stolen topic from Offsetguitars' thread with much more detail... I do like these, they haven't "messed anything up" too bad, hope they come in ~$1k new (prob. more like $1200 ...)

American Professional Jaguar/Jazzmaster

Why not go for the Mexican made one?

Or are there only MIM mustangs and duo-sonics?

The same reason you go for an American Strat vs. Mexican, I suppose :D There are two Mexican Jaguars/Jazzmasters in present production that aren't humbucker/hardtails; the Classic Players are around $800 new and (in particular w/ the Jazzmaster) have a spec that causes me to rush and change half the parts out (actually I own one of these... Or the remains of one, that I tailored more to my preference.)

Then there's the 60's Lacquer Classic for $1k; actually very nice guitars, much better than MIJ spec. on every level, and MIJs tend to go for about the same price at the moment (when you're able to locate a new one.) On principal, I'm hesitant to pay that much for a Fender not made in the US.

Then again I'm really not in the mood to drop >$2k on an American Vintage, so if a somewhat stripped down model (but not immutably incorrect, such as the Classic Player almost is,) can be had for American Special/Standard money (~$1k - $1.2k,) I'll be interested. My recent Strat search and experiences with my own MiM guitars make me an American Fender believer, as much as the Mexican models are nice guitars.

(Back to the Mustangs and Duos, most Mustangs in recent years are MiJ, but there are now Mexican versions of both guitars; $500 , closer to what I want to pay for something MiM.)

Re: American Professional Jaguar/Jazzmaster

Well, if anyone cares, $1500 pre-order. Not totally unfair I guess, for a US guitar. But more than I'll probably want to pay.

American Special Jazzmasters are ~$1400 new but have a silly Bigsby. I'll wait for the used market, but if the American Special Strat is any indication, it'll take a minute for prices to fall; or we won't expect the same depreciation as American Standard Strats face at least.

I love the bigsby! Classic Jazz

I still have my dad's '65 Jaguar.

Dots/binding? Dream guitar :D Nothing makes a better clean/surf sound to my ears than a good Jaguar; even my Japanese Jaguar (with Duncans) blows me away.

As for Bigsby vibratos... I don't really crave them. I guess they're not deal-breakers, I'd just rather have any other trem/no trem. Plus, very few Bigsby equipped guitars have the proper Tune-O-Matic on rocking posts.

Re: American Professional Jaguar/Jazzmaster

It was baby/powder blue and then my dad decided to strip the paint off of it and go "wood grain".

Re: American Professional Jaguar/Jazzmaster

I'm into country music and the Bigsby is my choice. In fact, I'm in the process of building a Jazzmaster with one on it.

Hells yeah man. Awesome! I'm workin on a frankenstrat with one bridge humbucker and I'm going to put a crazy trem system on it.

Sounds like a cool idea. Be sure to post a pic of it when you finish.

But they put the Jazzmaster pickup selector right by the neck pickup. Why screw up something that was ok before? I don't know if these are $1400 instruments. I was expecting maybe $700-$900.

Re: American Professional Jaguar/Jazzmaster

I never liked Fender's offset designs, but I love those colors. I would agree, though...they do seem a bit overpriced by about $500.
