Amp Advice (valvetronix)?

Well, I am looking for an amp with about 15 watts max. I really like the Fender Champion 600 but It doesn't do alot. I have alot of varying styles so I might be dissappointed with everything but tone. I was looking at what vox had to offer in the 200 dollar range and came across the valvetronix looks like they are really popular. I am not sure how they work diferent than say what Line6 offers with the POD. anywho what do you all think of the valvetronix compared to Class A tube amps and Class AB. I really Love the JTM45/Bassman amps and will have one as soon as I have a place where I can really blast them.

I've got the AD15VT and love it. That little sucker really smokes. Turn it up loud and it can handle it. The effects sound really good as does the modeled channels. Very simple to use and program. I even got the footswitch for mine... try it, I'm sure you'll ike it much more than Line 6 or the fender... I tried just about everying I could for something this size, and this price range and the Vox won hands down on tone alone... the only thing that came close was the Trademark 30, but the vox was still better cuz the vox had effects and amp models. It was far more flexible.

I guess the problem I'm having is I have a Crate GX15, which I think is great for clean and light gain but It cant really go beyond that and just does not sound as great as tube, obviously. I love the tube overdrive of the Fender and the cleans of it but it is basically a nicer sounding version of the Crate. I have a variety of styles I like to play but mostly it is that cranked JTM/Bassman tone. I have always hated tube hybrids. They always sounded like shit to me. How does the Valvetronix Poweramp and preamp differ from a all tube and say a Marshall AVT or what ever they were called.

First of all, know that you're buying a modeling amp. One that has a preamp tube, which affects the tone on the amp models. However, because they emulate so many different ones, they do not sound exactly like the promised amp, but it'll get really close.

I'm currently using a 30 watt Valvetronix and I'll tell you this now: The Vox Valvetronix can do ANY genre of music well. And I don't think you understand how serious I am when I say that. My musical tastes have changed dramatically over the years and the Vox has been able to provide killer tones for every genre.

On the 30+watt versions, there's a wattage control knob on the back, which lets you crank each amp model to the max, giving you amp models of their cranked models (meaning MORE TONE).

In short:

Get one.

Don't get the 30 watt valvetronix. I bought it because it looked like the wattage I needed. Later I played the 15 watt and 50 watt and they sound much better. With the power switch you can adjust the 50 watter down to whatever level you need. The 15/50 watter's cabinet/speaker combinations just work better. Vox also has another version of the valvetronix (the XL line) coming out soon which are higher gain amp models.

Yep. I also test the 15 watter vs. the 30 watter and IMO the 15 watter had better tone.

Test drive the Vox's for yourself. I think you'll be surprised how much you like 'em...

Yeah I am going to go to GC probably tommorow check em out. I am so lost on this amp hunt. It is hard to find an affordable practice amp that is decent if you have a range of styles. If I had the money I would be happy with just a JTM-45 and a cab with two greenbacks with it. <--- my ideal amp. But Im a college student with a year and half left so I am pretty much one of the poorest people in the world.

I just did some reading about the Vox XL's that are supposed to come out soon. If they're as good as the regular VT line, these may be worth waiting for. The new XL's are supposed to model more hi gain amps which sounds perfect for me. I don't use clean that often. If they sound good, I might trade in my AD15VT for one...

For tone, features, models, effects, & portability, the Vox can't be beat IMO.

It's not a Valvetronix but I have a little DA5 that features the same modeling technology without the tube in a portable 5-watt box.

I have to admit that little thing rocks. I bought it to be a portable, battery operated, "jam in the park" amp. But there have been a couple occasions when I've actually used it to jam along with others. It's really versatile, sounds pretty good, and is way easier to cart around than anyting else I own.

The DA5 is a little monster.If you don't have much money ,take that!you can bring it wherever you want ,and that thing is loud enough to make your neighbours crazy!

The Roland Cube. Great little amp for the money, I choose the vox valvetronix over it. But the cube is nice, sometimes I wish how that I did buy the cube instead.
Oh and I wish that I had waited to get the Vox, the XL looks promising.

If you can swing it, get a blue cloth Valvetronix. They have more models and more versatility. I use the AD60VTH head on a Bogner 2-12 as my home practice rig, and it's great. I can get quality tone at apt/bedroom levels, but if I want it to sound more tubelike and clean, I can put the master all the way up and use the gain as my volume. Then, the amp models are just different EQ structures.

One thing I like about the Valvetronix is that I can use the OD models in tandem with the amp models, then I have 2 volumes and 2 gains to work with......even on clean models. It allows you to pinpoint tones better.
