Amp builders - making a head out of a combo?

Is it crazy to butcher a combo and make just a head out of it? What do you suggest, cutting the cabinet or removing the guts and putting them in a enclosure? Is it too expensive? It's a Peavey ValveKing 50w 1 12".

Well, my recommendation is to give the chassis measurements to a cab maker and see how much they'd charge you. That way if/when you sell it, you can pop it back into the combo if you wish.

Unless you are pretty good at woodworking and tolex work, you'll likely butcher it up pretty badly.

Cool thanks Scott. Any names of cab builders on the west coast you could forward? Los Angeles prefered.

Thanks.

I did exactly what you are planning with my Spider II 112. Here is a picture:

It really wasn't too hard building the cabinet - but then I'm not too picky - but it works - and I can, as Scott said, drop it back into the original cabinet if I want to unload it.
