Amp channel switcher - what switches?

Hey guys,

A while ago I bought a two button footswitch for my Laney Lionheart so I could switch the reverb as well as the channels.

Anyhow - whilst the metal box was sturdy enough, the switches weren't that great and one of then has very much died!

I could buy a replacement unit, but I feel I may as well try to improve my soldering skills. To repair the pedal, what switches do I need to buy?

Thanks

Most likely DPDT but open it up and see what they look like first.

Bit daft of me not to include that! I'll get a photo asap once I am back at home. Cheers

See attached. I'm sure component wise it is straightforward what I need to grab, that said as I know zilch about these things I thought I'd ask!

Cheers

Re: Amp channel switcher - what switches?

Those are DPDT switches. The fun part will be finding one with the pins to mount to that PCB rather than the usual eyed tabs. Reach out to Laney and see what they can do.

Re: Amp channel switcher - what switches?

The pcb seems simple enough in what it does. One wire seems to go to both switches, then the remaining two are dedicated to each switch. Apart from my lack of soldering ability, is there anything stopping me from connecting the wires directly to replacement switches?

Thanks for your help. I'll contact Laney as suggested.

Re: Amp channel switcher - what switches?

You can certainly hardwire them. It would be wise to trace out the PCB ahead of time and indicate where connections go, including the cable leads, so it minimizes any errors. Or eliminates them.

Re: Amp channel switcher - what switches?

Weird, they must have a surplus of DPDT switches, or maybe those are more reliable than any available SPST switches(?), that circuit only needs SPST switches. You could hook the green (ground) to one side of two SPST switches and the red to the other side of one switch and the white to the other side of the other switch.

Re: Amp channel switcher - what switches?

That's amazing that there's only three wires utilized. That pretty much means that they must be using one for ground, and then each switch grounds one wire. Both switches could be easily hardwired using simple SPST switches.

Re: Amp channel switcher - what switches?

Thanks guys that's all great. Now... To round things off, a real stupid question:

What is the difference between DPDT and SPST?
